O.K. so i drive into downtown Boulder to pick up some things. I park at the meter and put in $.50, which gave me half an hour. I'm walking to the store and who do i see? this meter reader giving out tickets. I think to myself I got half an hour no problem. I see her look at me as i walk by, but don't think anything about it. I get back to my car and what do I see, a ticker for code Violation 7-6-12a5 (ie) IMPROP DISPLAY PLATE. I read the code #'s off the ticket. Go figure, she must of had a slow day. Not enough parking tickets to give out. 1st time in 4 years of not having a front plate. and

time for the little flip-up plate holder... You could go slightly rice and get the suction cups for the windshield... I did that a while, just stuck it up when i parked or got pulled over...
I don't run a front plate either, so I'm not bashing you on this. It's the chance we take in choosing to do so. Therefore, when we get nailed, we can't complain.
Well, we can complain, but no one really gives a rats...
In CA, the meter readers are the most notorious for giving out the no-front plate tickets. Santa Barbara has TONS of meter patrols out who go out of their way to look for missing front plates. Needless to say, whenever I drive to SB I take my wife's car or my motorcycle.
The likelihood of being pulled over for no front plate is much less than being cited while parking. In fact... while parking (at least in Santa Barbara) it's almost guaranteed.
Illinois requires two plates, but I haven't had a front plate on my car since I purchased it over 7 years ago. Fortunately, I've never been stopped for that violation. You often hear that a front license plate is beneficial to law enforcement. As a retired police officer I don't agree. It's very difficult to try to read the front license plate of an oncoming vehicle because of speed, traffic, light conditions, etc. If I wanted to check out a car badly enough that was traveling in the opposite direction, I'd turn around and follow or stop it. If it's such an important crime fighting tool, why do many states only require one plate? It only adds insult to injury to get a ticket from a meter maid.

In CO the law is that the front plate has to be a certian distance from the ground, somewhere around 12 inches. So, having it in the windshield can still get you a ticket. Also, always have it on at DIA!
Not sure why historicaly its required, but it sure does help out the photo radar
When i get my Vette back on the road it will have a front plate for the first time in three years, only because of the cover is now missing (came off while being towed off the track )

Hey dude, I'm not sure where you got this information, but it's not true at all in California. CVC 5200 (a) of the California Vehicle Code (Front license plate must be clearly displayed on the vehicle.) is a state law that can only be written by a California sworn peace officer. Parking enforcement officers are not classified as sworn peace officers under California Penal Code Section 830.2 and they cannot write tickets for California Vehicle Code violations. Parking enforcement officers are restricted to writing local city ordinance violations only. Parking enforcement officers are given their authority by the local city council and consequently, they can only enforce city ordinances that have been enacted by the local city council. They have no authority to enforce California state laws.

Perfectly put. Personally, I use my front plate - it's the law.
Like sneakelman said, don't do the crime if you're just going to cry about it when you get popped.

Wow, I sure liked reading this one. I had a Metermaid looking at my car one day just as I walked up. I jumped in and just took off. She walked on but keep looking at the car. I was hoping she was just admiring the front end and not the missing plate. Now after reading your post and I'm a Little Smarter, I'll know what to do when Little Miss Meter Maid comes a knockin next time.
Missouri has a two plate law. I run a front plate with the clear contour cover, I figure it's one less reason to get pulled over. I have not been stopped in over ten years. Knock on wood. David
