I did the Hypertech 8 years ago. There was a slight difference. With no other mods but it. I finally did some other mods and got a Dyno-tune. Then there was a big difference.
The Hyper-tech didn't cause any problems at all. I took my Vette to the dealer for some warrenty and recall work and just put the stock program back into the car until I got it back home.
It says lurk which I take as hanging around reading what other people have to say because I don't much about the subject but am interested. So I'm eating some popcorn waiting for replies.
97 with hypercrap here ! I works good on the shift points and firmness and also on fan temps . Otherwise..... THE MOTHER PINGS LIKE CRAZY!!!!! No power notice though . Maybe even a loss....
When I first got my '98, (completely stock except for straight pipes) I thought that it didn't feel peppy enough. I went ahead and bought a brand new Hypertech III and downloaded the programming. I set the shift firmness to the max, 93 octane fuel, rev limiter to 6300 and some other things I don't recall. After the re-programming it felt stronger and did shift firmer. That fall, I got a chance to run it at the strip. (nice cool nite) Ran a best of low 12.8's at 111. Now the truth is, I don't really know, how much, if any, the Hypertech III contributed to that time, but I was happy . If I had it to do over again, (I paid almost $400 for the Hypertech new) I would buy it, but NOT a new unit. I would come here and buy a good used unmarried unit for about 1/2 (or less) that price. (didn't know about the Corvette Forum back then) By the way UNMARRIED means unlocked. (NO Vin number stored in the unit) Have fun!

P.S.
Believe the manual when it says "make SURE that you have a very good battery and that it is 100% charged. That programmer and PCM draw an ungodly amount of current while it is downloading and uploading.
Hypertech is junk. I had it on a previous car I had, it was fine for shift points, but thats it. There are so many better programmer options out there, Diablo Sport, Superchips, etc. I'd look into one of them instead.

Anybody know how to unlock one of these units? My buddy has one, says he'd upload it on my car if we can unlock it...

+1 on Hyper hype. It did the shift points and firmness and gave you a SOTP feel, but actually gain is minimal. Just buy a tuning program. There's plenty of help on here, ls1tech, and the tuning program's own forums. I was lucky to get rid of my hypertech.
and yes, you have to "un marry" it from the car it was installed on to open it up.
I used it on my 96 Impala SS for shift points/firmness and to adjust for my change in gears (3.73). As far as the "performance tune" it actually made the car dyno lower by a few hp. Took out the tune and just used it for the other items previously mentioned.
As stated before, if your battery is weak while you are programming you will be royally screwed. If you get halway through the programming and the battery fails you may not be able to finish the program even with a new battery. You will be dead in the water so to speak. Then you have the nightmare of dealing with their customer service...
