It really only does it when I'm going downhill.
That's the typical circumstance for CAI surge, downhill and off-throttle or light-throttle.

If the surging is light, it's something you can probably live with until your planned upgrades are accomplished.

But in the meantime the hole in the shroud may be making the symptoms worse. You can test that by covering the hole with one or more puter mouse pads and some duct tape. Then go for a ride to the downhill that usually gives the symptom.

Good idea. I have the piece that I cut out, so i will just use some tape and tape that back under the filter and see what happens. I will post the outcome once I test it.

Thanx again

I plugged the hole up with the piece I cut out and some duct tape, and the surging stop. Any ideas of why this occurs? I have my theories but I was wondering if anyone actually new the reason.

The open hole you cut in the shroud creates air turbulence, as measured at the MAF sensor.

Even with smooth elegant bends to control the air flow, almost any CAI design will create some level of turbulence. It's only a question of how much and what level is tolerable.

Mine surges as well. I just live with it going down my driveway.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. And it doesn't surge while under a load (accelerating) because the engine is drawing air in under somewhat laminar flow vs. letting the turbulant flow from under the car surge into the engine.

thanks for all the help guys!!!
