Just bought an 04 z06, bone stock, 7,300 miles. Today I was in reverse and the car died. DIC said, pull key, wait 10 seconds. Off to the dealer for the column lock recall. Luckly, the prior owner has GMPP warranty(Major guard) through the end of 08.
Get yourself a column lock bypass at Corvettes of Houston. Once installed, your problems will be solved. I had mine towed twice to the dealer for the same issue. I didn't want it to happen again and leave me stranded.

My car started up again right after. Will the car not start sometimes?
I got mine from Corvettes of Houston. Cost around 50 bones. I ordered it after the first lock up. When the recall from the dealer failed about a month later, I swapped it on the side of the road (need like 2-3 different hand tools). Took about 20 minutes or so.
Forget the dealer on this.....too many people with too many problems. Take everyones advice & buy the COH CLB. I did & no problems to date. Its very easy to install.
doctordon is who I got mine from. I talked to him on the phone, what a nice guy. shipped 3 days.
$40 bucks.
I had my car serviced at the dealer, twice for that column, what a joke thier harness K. mine failed after two weeks
Don't risk your car from being damaged by wreckers and dealers. Do the fix yourself and be done with this issue. GM's fix never worked anyway, the faulty K harness was the problem most of the time. Maybe they have improved the fix now, but I still wouldn't let anyone touch my Z.
The "pull key wait 10 seconds" has nothing to do with the column lock. I have a CLB and my wife somehow stalled the car and got this message when she tried to start it and take off. Something tells me it has something to do with the different computers not shutting down or starting up properly. Just my 2 cents

It could actually be caused by several things, but the vast majority are caused by the column lock. Some have even reported that the message was due to the contacts on the ignition key or the actuator motor in the column. Try to reset the system by pulling the fuse in the passenger footwell, I don't remember the exact one, and/or disconnect the battery for a short time. Again, you'll have to do a search for the correct proceedure. I think the message is part of the security system.
I just ordered mine from Corvettes of Houston. I have had my car for over a year and had no issues, but the more stories I read, the more I get the feeling my time is up soon
How does the dealership screw up the column lock recall?
In the past they've been known to install faulty K harnesses which means more towings and visits to the dealer for problems they have not found a true cure. Maybe Gm has come up with a true fix for this problem since it has happened to me and many others, but it's been an ongoing issue. Plus you're risking someone else scratching or damaging your car.
How does the dealership screw up the column lock recall?
My car was taken in twice to the dealership and even though the dealership did the recall, the steering wheel would still lock. On the last recall I read or thought I read the lock was to be removed as part of the recall package. Mine came back twice and when I turned the steering wheel it was locked. Now that the CLB is installed, the steering wheel is no longer locked. I can go out and turn it side to side.
It seemed to me dealerships either didn't understand the recall or had the latest version. All my dealership wanted to do was flash a PCM.......
so once bitten, twice shy, 3rd time.......now way. I didn't care to see my car in the hands of careless flatbed drivers. So....the $50 I spent on the CLB.........I felt it was one of the smartest mods I made and I am not known for being smart...just ask my wife.
What's weird is, the car stalled, I got the pull key wait 10 seconds message, but then the car started right back up. I don't remember the steering wheel locking, then again, I don't remenber turning the steering wheel, I just hit the brake and started the car. Maybe it's something else?
From what I understand, the circuit shuts off the fuel pump at 3 MPH.....I could start mine too but when I went to move it, it stalled time and time again and the DIC said Pull key wait 10 seconds.

Your Z probably already had the latest recall performed with the GM faulty K harness. Your steering wheel will now not lock but with the faulty K harness it will just stall and display the message. Get the CLB.

Actually, it's an 04 with only 7,000 miles on it. I looked at the vehicle history report and it showed it has never been to a dealership for service. Hell, it didn't even have the skip shift eliminator. I'm going to buy the CLB, thanks guys.
