Default Thank you ACTIVE HANDLING

Yesterday, was "Corvette Sunday", no matter what, my wife and I go out for a long cruise in the 'Vette. We decided to see Luray Caverns, as we had never been there. After the tour (which was awesome) and a killer dinner of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and home made pie at "The Southern Kitchen" we headed home. It was starting to rain pretty heavy and the 'Vette was just eating it up! We got off the hwy 81 south of Harrisonberg and connected up to rural 2 lane RT 42 south, for the second to last leg home. As we proceed down the road doing about 55 I noticed I had a car right on my bumper (don't you hate that) but I neither sped up or slowed down, I just kept up the double nickel. Well, coming up, is a wicked "S" turn between two farms where the speed goes down to 20 mph . I downshift the 'Vette from 5th to 3rd and punch through the first turn at 45, I come into the second curve, same speed modulating the rear wheels with the accelerator just prior to the point of slip. Whamo! I feel my rear start to break loose! Before I can even react to it, I feel the active handling kick in, straighten the car, and I pulled out of the corner like a rocket! As I exited, I heard my wife yell "OH NO, the car behind you, (A Toyota 4Runner) spun out in a circle! I think it is SO COOL when this Hi tech stuff works like it is supposed to!!! And no complaints about the BF Goodrich G-force KDW's, they work like champs, it took a lot of throttle, and deliberate intention to get the car to break loose in the rain in a tight corner! BTW, the rest of the 20 mile ride home was very quiet, no one was following me! ARRGH, I do have a dirty Corvette to clean today, I just washed it Saturday! I enjoy driving it too much not to drive it........even in the rain!!!

John

Glad it worked, a sudden end to a spin would have put a damper on what sounds like an otherwise perfect day.

I agree, this updated technology does make things safer and more enjoyable. Nice story.

Technology is good, but so is common sense.
Glad everything worked out ok.

Saved me on a 270 off ramp one time

I always think the guys who turn it off as a matter of routine are playing with fire. There's a few ponies down the back end.

Do you suppose the jerk in the Toyota got the hint and backed off tail gating in wet weather for the rest of that day?

To each his own. Usually people who make that statement have no idea what it does for them and how much quicker it can react to a situation than a human can react.
