Default Is this Normal?

When I go to start my 04 CE Coupe it will crank for a few seconds before starting. My 96 would start as soon as I touched the key. Is it normal for the C5 to crank for awhile. I will say that it takes the longest after sitting overnight. Car is dead stock and low milage. ???

Right off the cuff. I'd say it points to the fuel system....maybe fuel psi regulator.

This IS a good guess. The symptom sounds the same as mine when this happened (not the Vette)

Do you let the fuel pump cycle before turning the key.

Sometimes when I get in a hurry, after the car has set a couple of days, and just crank it, it turns for a second or two.

It never ever does it if I let the fuel pump cycle first...

Peace
Chip

Even with a brand new battery, and letting the fuel pump cycle, mine still cranks for a second or so before starting when cold. After it's warm, she starts up immediately.

I've never had to let the fuel pump cycle on mine.. It usually fires on the first pop... in fact, today it didn't for once and I had already let go of the key... woops!

I would have the dealer do a pressure test on the fuel rails. I had a similar problem, took a few seconds after leaving it overnight and would start right away when warm. Check it before closing, and then the next day. You will most likely find a drop in pressure.

Turned out there was a leak somewhere in the fuel tank area which caused the system to lose pressure.

Good luck

This morning I let the fuel pump cycle first and it did start quicker. I'll try this for awhile and see how it goes. In the long run I'll have the pressure checked next time at the Dealer. Thanks for the help!!!

My '04 starts with a resounding rock of the chassis when you hit the key. But, I do turn the key on, let my memory seat position, my gages cycle, and put my belt on before I hit the key. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't '04's have a returnless, non regulated fuel system? Fuel pressure is regulated by the PCM, by pulsing the fuel pump as needed.

Thought that from '99 on this was the case - could be wrong - have been so before

No you are correct, they changed from a fuel system that had a return
in 99. You will see D/S FRC's have two lines, and after 99 only one.

Peace
