Well, I just had the front two RunFlats replaced with General UHPs. I must say, the difference is astounding. The car rides better, turns in smoother, follows the trenches in the road much less and are much quieter. Both tires + mounting / balancing cost me $260. If anyone is looking for a nice cruising tire, I'd recommend these. I can't say how well they react compared to something like the Michelin PS2, but for everyday driving and until I can afford some higher end performance tires, they'll get the job done.
I bought all 4 General UHP tires from Tire Rack. They do handle better than the run flats, and are a lot quieter. They actually hook up fairly well, and got rid of my wheel hop problem. Good tire for the price.
I have always had good luck and tires from gereral, I had a set on my 82 Camaro, they lasted forever, 50K plus. The reviews on tirerack for that tire are also good.
I believe they are made by Continental. Used to be made at the plant here outside Charlotte. Think they are shutting down production here, so dont know anymore...
General and Avon tires are extremely low-priced, high-performance tires. Are they in the same league as the Goodyear GSD3s, BF Goodrich KD2s, or Michelin PS2s? Probably not, especially at 8/10s driving or better but if you don't drive very aggressively or cannot afford the best, they represent a perfectly acceptable choice.
The guy I take my car to for everything just mentioned these tires and said "yea, they won't hook up like a high end GS3, but for the cash, well worth it!!"
