...make me smile....I actually laugh outloud sometimes, but appreciate the passion each "side" has......and heck I even learn something from them...but its always interesting to see forum threads and where they go....
PS..."Sheepishly" I have to admit, .I know nothing about drag racing, autox....but love my corvette ......

Thats good spirit. Even though we sometimes disagree, there is no hate going on..
My best this summer was 117.. I'll be heading out tomorrow as well (weather permitting). Hoping for that cool air. Aiming for a 12.20's on Wide Ovals..
Lol, forecast is 95 deg and thunderstorms..... If I get to run, I'll shift faster. Last Friday was my first time to drive hard in the car. I'll hit the shifts a bit faster and hopefully get another MPH or two out of it. What do most 01s with a CAI MPH?
114-116ish.... possibly could see a 117 if you got some perfect racing weather and great driving. With drag radials (which I saw you refer to in an earlier post) you should be able to pull 1.8's in the 60' with little effort and when you get good 1.7's and when you get it mastered with good track prep 1.6's
No reason with good driving (which you claim you are ) that 11's cant be had.

Well, we have this hurricane coming in right now so I didn't make it to the track. I'm not sure how well the Vette floats.... I'll keep you guys posted. I will guarantee 11's though on drag radials, which I already have on the car, ready to go for tonight..... Oh well.
lol. what a joke! I'm sure Ranger is a great guy but there is more than one way to accomplish the same goals. Lots of sheep here.
Well if your way was/is so good, where are your times? That's what I thought, couldn't master a stockish car. The amount of high HP cars that can't even match some of the stockish times is actually quite high. So the point is, get the stock launch down and you'll go a long way when adding more hp/tq. The methods presented work, plain and simple, and all the fast drivers use these type techniques.
On the AH, it's saved my butt also. The first time out this year, with 575rwhp and 650rwtq, and a 50* track, I had a challenge at hand. At about the 330 and 100+ mph the Z got side ways heading towards the center line, because of active handling reacting before I could, this allowed me to pedal some and keep from going over the line. Now I am one not to get out of it, allmost ever, so I got back into it WOT and it went for the right side wall, again AH helped save my butt (did get out of it this time). Now, being able to drive under these conditions and having the experiance also helps a bunch. Don't leave home with out it, AH.

Oh and regarding my advice, it is based in the idea that I think that a person should learn to drive. I do not think a person should learn to drive one car. I think that it would be comical to put Ranger, you, me, and whoever else in 30 different types of cars from different types of racing and theory and see who can drive. So Ranger has mastered the Corvette M6/M12 clutch release on street tires. So what? That's a pretty specific category, lol. I can drive anything. I might give up a tenth or two on street tires in a Vette but I will give that up for abilities elsewhere.
I have been racing since I was 8 years old. Karts, SCCA, NHRA, IHRA, etc etc. Don't criticize me. I come from a very different world than you, buddy. Real racing. I'm proud of what I have accomplished. What have you accomplished that will give you any credibility with me regarding racing a car? Post count and membership length don't count, sorry.
I also have a back ground racing/driving sticks. Now if you would open up your closed mind you may learn something. Using Ranger's, Dr Ron's and Rob's advice I was able to get the time in my sig on my 5th pass on BFG DRs. The tech that Ranger has penned works, try it out and maybe with your driving prowess you could get in the top ten, like those that are giving you advice have done. Not meant as a put down, just letting you know what will happen if ya listen to those that sorted these cars out before you and I, which can shorten the learning curve as indicated by my above 3rd statement. .

Thanks Robert. I'm not sure I ever disagreed with the methods presented for launching (they are similar to what I already do - it's all basically common knowledge for anyone who has been to the strip more than a couple times), just that drag racing is better with sticky tires. I have cut some very low 60 fts in cars with street tires and equal or more power to my Z. I thought it would be a no brainer with the Z, but the track was like snot as it was 100 plus that day, cooled to about 90 with high humidity so even with a slow clutch release on a 2000 RPM launch the tires still spun to the tune of a 2.2 and that was feathering the throttle. That's the way it goes. I still ran a 12.4 so I feel really good that with DRs and a 1.7 sixty foot I will run a healthy 11 something.....
Regardless, I'd prefer to let that part of this thread die as I am never proud to get into it with my fellow Corvette owners. I realize I am new but I'm not talking out of my ***. Ranger and I both know what we are talking about and he has a lot of seniority on the Vette boards and that's cool. But it doesn't make everyone else completely wrong.....
BTW, my race car cuts high 1.3 60s. Not using street tires, lol.... And it's still a little fun to drive....

I think in the end, we all are after the same thing, the thrill of driving a great all around car to fast times.
