Default First impression after a few mods

First the mods that were done on my 98 C5 - A4:

Place: Speed Inc - Shaumburg, IL

Vararam, 3.42 gears, 3200 stall, B&M Trans Cooler, FLP Long tube Headers Package ( X-Pipe, High Flow Cats ) and a Dyno Tune, also changed the plugs and wires.

Car made 325 hp at the rear wheels, good? I guess.

Anyway, picked it up on Monday, car was pulled out of the front bay and driven up to me as I was in the back of the joint picking up my old "stock" gears, car pulls up, hmm seems quite I thought, hard to tell I had headers installed, but I'm running stock mufflers - I like this though as the car looks stock and sounds completely stock at idle -Well, I guess it does sound a little louder.

I get in, drive around the lot and get her on the street, now I give it just a little gas and a nice little roar can be heard - Ah the headers are there!

So, I was told the gears don’t need to be broken in as they were used and had 800 mile already on them, by the way there is no whine what so ever.

I make a right turn on a major road get straight and decide to open her up a little bit, I hit about 25 mph and jump on it - WOW, a huge roar, me getting pinned into my seat, the car just pulls forward hard, I could feel the rear end go sideways just a bit - stock run flats, I hit 65 in a blink, and let off quickly.

The car is so much livelier now and really runs very smooth, you couldn’t tell any mods were done unless you opened her up.

I'm very happy as this is what a C5 should drive like out of the showroom, now I know how a Z06 owner must feel - well sort of as I'm not at Z06 speed - YET!!

Spent $4000.00 after all said and done.

Happy? YES!!!

NEXT - Bring on the heads and cam!!!!

It's hard to explain in words, but the car pulls very hard when you stomp on - if your in a passing situation - look out, cause your gonna hit "speeding ticket" speeds quickly.

Worth it? yes

But, I think a head and cam may be a "bigger" seat of the pants feeling though, I mean your gonna be adding like 75 HP.

I wish I could have done both but I was at my limit $4000.00

I would have gotten the heads and cam first but with my 2.73 gears it think it would have limited the performance. Also I very leery about "internal" engine mods.

See I was in a "catch 22" with the 2.73 gears though.

Either way you choose, you will be happy It's sure, I am, for now.

But maybe someone else could chime in here and tell us which "package" would offer the best improvement

Nice mods - I like the fact that it appears stock until you really get on the gas.

The new C5 gen should've been that way. After all, it's supposed to be the toughest/fastest American car made. Its the American Icon...the dream car...etc, etc. Glad you made that choice. I've the 3.42's also (from a Z06), but stock TC. (Not looking for all out drag racer). Am looking to add LT's though, when I find a good price on a used set here....

However, $4000 seems a lil much.... But am sure its worth the smiles you have from ear to ear. Good luck & Enjoy!!
