Default Ceramic pad dust!

Just had new cross/slotted rotors and GM ceramic pads put on and the brake dust on my front C5 Z chromes is horrible! Thinking of changing the fronts to semimetallic. Any one else experiancing this and what was your resolution?

The drilled and slotted will cause more dust initially (light gray color). You should be OK after a few miles.

Switching to semi metallic will give you more dust and it will be almost black.

I think that it will settle down after a few miles.

???????????????
I thought the whole point of using ceramic is less dust. They're generally noisier and less effective. Wouldn't switching back would just cause more dust?

The "problem" is with the slots in the rotor and not the pads. These are really meant for track use since the slots shave off the top surface of the pads to eliminate glazing in high heat applications. You would have been better off going with just the drilled rotors if street use only - no dust.

No appreciable dust on my D+S rotors with AC/Delco Durastop ceramic pads.
So I am puzzled by your comments...
Now switch to my Hawk HP+ pads and within 50 miles of driving the wheels are BLACK !

Raybestos Q Ceramic/Meallic here.Less dust than stock, but, still more than I like. Nothing on the rims, only on side gills and rear facia.

I've got the same set-up and the mega dust went away after 100 miles or so.

Same as others have posted...dust lasted for a few hundred miles (i assume it varies with how aggressive you apply the brakes)

Virtually no dust with the ceramics after 14k miles of use!

I'd give it some time.

They should settle down. Durastop Cermaics are very good pads, used them on the '93.

Did you bed the pads after installation?

Let me clarify this: Did you or whomever installed them bed the pads by doing 20 consecutive stops from 30 MPH. Take it up to 30 do a hard firm stop, and repeat 20 times. By about 18 you will begin to smell the pads and experience a slight fading if you used a good pad. Park it and let them cool down some and your good to go. The pads are mated to the rotors, bedding the shoes as it's known.

You'll know if you used a poor pad, getting from 18-20 a poor pad will fade fast and be nearly gone.

My Hawk HPS pads had a lot of dust initially, but after driving it for a while, it has shown a significant reduction.
