Wrong. El Paso county and the city of Colorado Springs use so much salt that the roads are white after the snow melts off. Last year the city received permission from the state to use even more salt.

Thats news to me. I live in Fremont & frequent Pueblo county & for the last 12 years theres no salt on the roads. I have seen them use the liquid de-icer on the road, which leaves the roads white, but not salt. We have the tiny red sand particles on the roads in the winter.
Ok, I just got off the phone with Colorado DOT. The rep said that some counties in the state use a liquid base salt additive in conjuction with the Mag-Chloride that they spread on the roads.
He went on to say that its the decision of each individual county to decide weather to use it or not. Actual hard granulated salt is not used however, like in the mid-west & northeast parts of the country.
In addition to that, he said also that there are alot of anti-corrosive agents added to the mag-chloride to help cut down on rust on cars & street erosion as well.
That's interesting. Maybe the chunks of what I call salt are are globs of gravel stuck together with the liquid salt. When I am out riding next winter and see some I'll have to stop and see if it is really chunks of salt or something else. Liquid or solid, salt is salt...
What they don't do (that I have seen) is spread pure rock salt like they did when I lived in New England.

Thanks, Apartments w/ garage? what about a carport?
Thanks for the tips. I'll gladly take more info if it is out there. I saw the autocrossing they did last summer!!!! It was at the world center I think!!!!
To the people that live in Colorado Springs, do you all have houses or is there nice apartments with garages. I really want a garage but I have to get an apartment when I get back. No time for a house.... I have seen a few apartments with garages but they are pricey. I could get a place with a car port. would that be good to store the Z under?
The SCCA, the local Corvette club, and other clubs rent the World Arena for autocrosses. If you like to do that there is an event that you can attend pretty regularly. If you like to do HPDEs there is occasionally one at PMI in Pueblo. There is also drag racing there.
There are apartments and condos to be had with garages. Which base will you be stationed at?
