Alright, I just bought my SW 01 Z06. IT WILL BE MY DAILY DRIVER!!!! I am still deployed so it is sitting pretty in a garage for now. As soon as I get back it will be on the road. I will be living in Colorado Springs Co. though. I am going to have a beater car for snow days and maybe rain.
If anyone here has any suggestions about what I need to get for the car before I make the move to Colorado, it would help. I have driven a camaro in Chicago during snow storms and stuff. I can handle a rear wheel drive car no problem. I just want the car to be prepared for the mountain, even though it will not be driven in the snow or rain. Thanks
Interesting. I would have hoped for any suggestion. I wonder if the altitude will get to the car... anyway I hope I don't need anything special to drive my Z06 up in the mountains. Thats all I am worried about.

Really, 2 hours isn't that much time for responses, I'm sure you will get some more and hopefully some from the really high altitude folks. I'm not as high of altitude, about 3800' and I have not had any problems. I would guess that you will not have any problems either, the joy of a MAF controlled car is that it can adapt very easily to changing atmospheric conditions. You will notice a significant drop in power though, one bummer of living at altitude.
Enjoy all of the mountain driving you can, one thing that the flat landers don't have that we do .
Just come back safe, drive it, look for me, and wave!!!!
PS, Go to the forums tab, then events & regional, then mountain prairie, it's about 90% Colorado there.
What I have noticed around post is there is only one other Z besides me (03 TR) and then maybe 4 or so C5's (seen blue, yellow, black, and red) and one blk C6.

Thanks for the note. I really hope I get to drive the car out there in the mountains!!! The views are spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WILL be drive my white beauty to the shop on base everyday I can!!!!!
What is this said "zip tie intake mod"? I can imagine what you mean but I am not for sure....
It's simply the removal of the front half of the air filter housing to make it less restrictive. The filter is then held in place with zip ties. Search the C5 forum to find some innovative variations on this.
I live in the Springs and there's really not much of a difference in driving. Keep her in the garage during snow and you'll be fine.
As far as the mountains go, if you're new to mountains. Take a few drives through cautiously and enjoy the ride. Then start having a little more fun. Over confidence would be the only thing to be afraid of.
I recommend skipping the zip tie and go straight to the Blackwing. Your Z won't be as peppy in the high altitude. Make it back safe and thank you for your service.
As stated before, check out the mountain prairie section for more CO action.
I had a White 78 Corvette last summer. I drove it everywhere in the Springs last year. I decided I didn't want to restore it, due to time issues, so I sold it to buy the Z06!!!
I was lucky to find a White Z06 to replace the White 78!!!
I found that zip tie mod. It seems like a cool thing to do but the Z already has a blackwing on it!!
Here is the list to date.
lg longtube headers and x pipe with cats
blackwing
shaner ported tb
asp pulley
futral motorsports f-13 cam with upgraded valve train
lowered and alighned
tuned
shorty antenna
dte strut brace
builr rear end by rpm
frame savers
southern car parts partition combo
B&M Short Throw
Vredestein Sessanta rear tires
hood seal
hopefully an IPOD interface...its ordered but haven't got it
just ordered new elite engineering alum. heel toe gas pedal and dead pedal
I think thats it..... huh I have ordered so much new stuff I cannot keep it straight!!!! I know the Z has 415 rwhp, 400 rwtq!!
I hope I can find all the Corvette guys out in the Springs!!!!! When I do get out there in January, you will all see the car!!!!
I haven't noticed you.......... I don't think......... a yellow Z, well, look for me............... SAVE THE WAVE!!!!
Seems like I drive through the Springs about once a month on the way to NASA or SCCA events at Pueblo or La Junta. Will the I25 construction get finished in the same year they need to start over?
Hope to see you sometime.
If anything... get a set of C5 wagon wheels and a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 M+S tires... they make them in standard C5 sizes. Might be nice if in the winter months.
Also, I'd look into 3m clear bra or similar to protect the areas behind the wheels, the rockers, and the lower doors. These cars get sandblasted... and being out west the roads will have salt/sand all over them. The cars paint will get beat up in no time.
As for mods... you've got them... I'd get a catch can to keep oil out of the intake manifold.
I catch about 1/4" of oil every few thousand miles.

Any suggestions could be helpful.
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs and now live outside Denver. The ZO6 is already prepared for the mountain. Nothing more fun than running the Z thru the high mountain twisties (and the views aren't bad either).
Yeah, your right!!! I wasn't "in" my 'vette, but I do remember seeing you and yours, there was also the guy with the blue Z there, it's all coming back to me now!!!!
There isn't anything special about driving here. The car adjusts itself just fine for the altitude.
Do get ready for the huge power loss that you will experience here. The altitudes in the Colorado Springs area range from about 6000 to about 7000 feet and that makes for a 25%+ power loss.
