I'd like to keep mine until I can pass it on someday. Of course I am always lusting after an upgrade. I'd like to have a C6 Z or something beyond that without trading my baby.
I definitely fall in the camp of long term ownership. As crazy as some people out there will think this sounds, my goal is to keep it for 20 years. I'm 1 down and 19 to go. My previous car I kept for 15 years and only got rid of it because it became unrepairable. The corvette is a very supported platform so I am hoping not to run into that issue.
Other than mod'ing a car for performance, it's also about making it the way you want it. Why build something you really like and poor tons of time & money into something only to get rid of it later?
I bought mine about 2 years ago and have no plans to sell it. I'll probably keep it for for another 5-10 years or so and replace it with a newer vette or sports car, but not until I'm in a financial position to do so very easily. Right now the car is paid for and I'd rather be spending my money on paying off a rental property that I own investing for the long haul. The Vette is a great toy and quite frankly no other cars are really calling out to me these days -- my interests are focused on other things.

I'm pretty fickle when it comes to cars. After 2-3 years, I get the itch to trade, but I bought the 99 in April, 2000, and have been very happy and content to keep it for over 7 years. I have just recently considered getting a 2008 and getting rid of the 99, but have a hard time even considering life without the '99. I'd love to keep it, but just don't have the room. I'm still debating which way to go...new C6 or just keep the C5 for a little longer.
do most forum member buy their vettes with the idea of selling them later or keeping them forever?
i just bought my first corvette. i bought it with no intentions of ever selling it. i hope to be able to maintain it and keep it until i'm very old and grey (well, more grey).
i know some folks are flippers...they see good deals, fix 'em up, and sell 'em for profit.
then there are folks who buy 'em, mod 'em, and sell 'em for less than they have in them due to boredom with the car or pressing financial reasons.
just interested where most forum member are on this issue.

Funny. The wife and I talked about this just last night.
At 56 I now know that I'll NEVER be without a vette again. My 98 has 56K on it. I figure in about 18 months C6's will be below 30 and I'll start looking for one of them. I'd like the LS2 and the Nav system.
Plus in another 18 months, I figure the C6 body style will finally grow on me enough to buy one. Next time, it's the M6 instead of the auto though. Unfortunately, I can't talk the wife into a vert yet though.
Live for the moment with your Vette, never intend to keep a car forever, you never know what can happen, and emotional attachement to a car (just like to a woman hehe) can end up costing you money you could have spent on a new one.
Never fall in love with a car, I did once, and it was stolen and destroyed exactly 1 month and 24 days later!
I will get rid of the wife before the vette!!!!!!!!!!!!
I forwarded this to your wife and I'm having a plaque made for you with these words on it to hang in your Vette while searching for a new home and of course garage.
This is the only Corvette I'll ever own, and for now the plan is to keep it forever. If I ever do feel the need to sell it or donate it, I wouldn't be able to replace it. But yes, I know I'm weird.
My 2000 C-5 needed some work when I bought it a few years ago but now most of the bugs are gone its I will keep this one for a while. Seriously, if the motor goes out I can just get a LS2-LS7! I don`t have to get a new one, maybe a newer one some day. .............Bill in Los Angeles
