Default Advice on de-modding interior

Anyone have experience taking off the fake wood inserts etc, apparently they are held on by adhesive over the stock parts. Here is a pic.

...probably just an adhesive that would release with careful application of heat from a hair dryer...or bring it to AZ, it's still well into the 100 degrees+ for a few more weeks...

Just yank em off then use eitehr Goo-Gone or 3M adhesive remover to get the glue off. You may need a hair dryer to yank em off, then clean and polish with your choice of interior cleaners...

A note of caution:

It is probable that the adhesive may pull away the thin OEM covering that is applied to the console (on your pictures it appears there are areas of the console that do not have the fake wood appliqué - run your finger over that area and you'll 'feel' the ruff surface I am referring to).

Like others suggest - try and heat (high heat hair dryer) the surface of the parts to be removed - pulling slowly away from the OEM parts.

Good luck - if it gets messed up you can get the parts painted to match the exterior of the Vette

A hair dryer would be your best bet to start. Be careful when pulling these off - they are designed NOT to come off, and pulling to hard or fast might take a bit of the dash or door panel with it. Just go slow, and then use adhesive remover for the remnants.

I would try it on the smallest area that has one of the woodgrain pieces first and see how that goes. If it starts to pull the OEM finish loose, might have to rethink how much you want them off.

Thanks for all the comments, why indeed. I should have mentioned I'm considering buying this car but wanted to try and make sure I could rectify the injustices done to the interior first!

I've found that using waxed dental floss makes plaques, moldings, etc easier to get off if you can get it behind the item to remove.

You are going to end up ripping off the cheap paint layer. I had same problem in my car.

Ended up getting VE hydro painted parts.

hmm, wonder if the car is worth the potential aggravation. I haven't run across that many TR with Oak interior though.

Those pieces are known for peeling anyway. Just get someone to paint them or invest in the hydro coated pieces.

Just negotiate it into the price.
