Wow relax. Comparing new and used parts prices is just as dumb as comparing stock vs. modded cars. One car was designed for performance while the other for comfort. The numbers don't lie. Once you start modding ANY car, the badge on the side doesn't matter anymore. There's really nothing to debate.

Looks like it's time to lock this thread. It has degenerated into grade-school, playground name-calling. Sad. Like I said before, the internet brings out the worst in some people. Too bad. There are lots of wonderful folks on this forum. I hope to meet more of them!

Interesting Topic. But did you read this............ Its a no brainer..

Yeesh! I just read through the thread and it, as could be predicted, went downhill fast. I can't believe I see grown men bickering over something like this. You are all Corvette owners/enthusiasts. Try to get along.

To the OP, go out and drive both cars and consider their options. I won't get into the modded/stock debate because it is pointless. For the sake of argument, I'll assume you to be like me and plan to simply buy and drive your Vette as it is for a while.

The coupe is great for the targa and storage space. It is also available from the factory with sport seats and is a great machine. I have driven plenty of my friend's coupes and have enjoyed every minute of it.

The Z06, which I will state is what I bought in case you feel I'm biased, does have improved perfomance in more ways than one. It has more base horsepower, lighter weight, better suspension, and larger factory tires. If you are looking to go autocrossing or road racing with a stock Vette, I feel it is the right choice. You do however lose the targa and it did not come with sport buckets from the factory.

I personally prefer the look of the FRC over the coupe and love the extra power handling of the Z06 without having to modify it, but to each his own. I am a weekend autocrosser and road racer though so I tend to err on the side of performance over comfort.

Don't let anyone tell YOU which Corvette is the right one for YOU. They are all amazing vehicles and you should feel proud to own any one of them. It does'nt matter to me if you have a coupe/Z06/vert/modified/stock/whatever version. You will still get the same wave from me out there on the road . Good luck and happy hunting .

Well decided to get the convertible and never regretted it. Oh and regards to wishing I had the extra power. Well I took care of that, So now I've got my cake and I can eat it too!

still a little over $1000, but you make it sound like it's only $400, even with discounted parts it's still over $1000, unless you happen to own a lift and can weld and fabricate your own exhaust then you could get away with $757 which is still almost double $400.

Now I'm done commenting on this thread because it has gone to hell!

-I payed $400 shipped for headers and x-pipe.
-I'm not running cats.
-I had to pay an exhaust shop $95 to make stainless mid-pipes to run from the collectors to the x-pipe.
-You don't need a lift.

That's $495

I also had a tuner turn off my smog pump and rear O2's, but that would've had to been done regardless of what brand headers were on the car.

I m not sure if the coupe has more storage room..my Z has a good amount of space there is nothing between the trunk and the cockpit area.If it does have more room is it that much more? Im not sure since Ive never really sat in a coupe or examined one closely.
Yes much more. You could smuggle a small family of Mexicans across the border in the back of the coupe!

COUPES LOOK SLEEKER, ZO6S... 11 CENTS A DOZEN EVERY WANNABE RACER HAS ONE, RESALE VALUE DEPENDS ENTIRELY ON THE CONDITION OF THE VETTE.

As you see opinions can vary.

NONE are better. They are simply Different

Get the one that's right for you and Enjoy

The coupe will have a "more forgiving" ride as the Z06 suspension is more firm.

I had an '02 coupe and loved it but moved to a Z16/Z06 and love it for different reasons. At times I wished I had the coupe back for those long cruises but I would not give up the Z06. Not much help am I

Either one is a winner and you will enjoy it!

look, alexsmith, here's the deal. i don't think these fine people need to suffer any more with our little post/pm volley. i know i'm getting tired of it. so i will "respectfully" remove you from my buddy list and try and forge on with what i feel is the intent of this board and that is to share information, stories, constructive criticism/opinions. and if i'm way off-base with my ideals about this forum, then i will just have to wallow in my own naive ignorance.

sound like a plan, sport.

have a great one, everyone,

You are a very interesting person. I think it's funny how pm'ed me and asked if I wanted to continue this in public, then you knock me for doing so.

Also, you still have yet to explain how I cannot input valuable information in a topic that I have had 6 years of knowledge in regardless if I owned a Corvette or not.

But underneath all the BS we have given each other, I will admit that you do have some good input here. My first response to you was not to try to attack you, so I apoligize if I came off as such. I do admire that you have chosen not to go to name-calling, so that is a respect I can give you. I am here to learn about and share knowledge with these fine people too. So hopefully you and I can move past then in a mature way as I am sure that you are a mature person, but we just got off track somewhere in the discussion. Take care bro.

Respectfully,
Alex

You can't go wrong with either.........

I like the lines on the Z06 better.... So sexy....

Something about the C5 coupes long glass window...

I like the early C3's because of the short window.

I like the lines of the C5 vert too, and for the same reason.

Vert or Z06 ~ IMHO

I think I would say that while you can make a coupe perform like a Z06, you'll always have a helluva time getting that top on and off a Z06.

That would not be wise.

The C6 targa has a steel frame. The Z06 frame is aluminum. Without the roof structure as a stressed member, you'd likely get a great deal of frame flex in a c6/Z06.

That's almost $4000 right there, unless you buy everything used and that is without any of the weight or handling advantages of the Z. Just add wheels and tires it's $5000. That right there eats up your original savings and that is assuming it was a Z51 6 speed that you bought. Otherwise a base 2.73 auto would still have miles to go to match a stock Z. just ask the guy with the 98 white auto a4. He is wishing he bought a Z because after $4000 in mods he still isn't close to a Z.

My Z has LT's
CAI
Fast 90/90
Catback
Tune

so that $5000 in mods coupe still isn't gonna come close

How much have you spent on your car? Because I looked at your profile and would say you are at about stock Z hp, but still low on acceleration since you are still .3 seconds slower in the 1/4 than a stock Z on F1's, probably due to tranny ratios and weight.
Well, the easiest way to get your targa to have the same power as a Z06 is to just drop an LS6 in it. You can get one from GM Parts Direct for $6,449.35. Then there's no question it's got the same ponies and it can be modded just like a Z06 too.
