This might be a weird question to post here but I was wondering what type of vacs others have in their garages to vacuum out their cars ... something that works well like one would at a carwash or one of those gas station vacs.
I think it's a great question. I saw one at Home Depot the other day that includes a wall mount. With the extension, the hose would reach my car without moving the unit. Pretty nice for a hundred bucks.
I'm thinking about something small and portable. Mainly to get the little pieces of debris that get in the car while driving sans-roof (and from people's shoes).

I picked up a 1 Gallon wet/dry Vacuum by "Shop Vac" to use specifically on the Vette. It's very light and portable and hangs on the wall with it's attachments. At $25 no big deal if it doesn't last forever. Works fine for removing the yellow Lab hairs I carry with me everywhere...

That is what I have. Mounted it in the center of the wall and can get to every part of the garage with it...

Been using my shop vac, but it's big and bulky...the hose rubs around on the paint, the crevice tool is big and won't get into the little places, etc. I just bought one of the little hand-held units like the one below from a previous post, only mine is a Shop-Vac brand. It works great.

+1.
I like my vac. It hangs on the wall between the two cars. I can almost reach everything.
The do make larger canister type vacs that mount in one location with a long hose. These are close to the commercial grades I suppose. I have seen pictures posted here of a member having one in his garage.
I've got to put a pitch in for my wife's Christmas gift. She bought me a 14.5V Cordless Dustbuster. It's has great vacuum, can reach into many tight spots, and, no cord of course. I use it each time I bring my car in, I leave my mats in, and just vacuum the surface dirt, 3 minutes! If you do this each time, you can prevent having to do a "major" cleaning. When I need to do a major cleaning I use my Ridgid 6HP shop-vac. But in reality, the shop-vac hasn't been used on the 'Vette since I bought it!
That sounds like a great idea. I'll check 'em out. For the major jobs I think I'll still go to the local U-Wash. For a dollar I can vac the whole interior including trunk..

I wanna keep my c5 clean!
I don't know if you have Mike's Car wash's where you live. But if you do you might check them out. Here in Southern Ohio, they offer free use of their vacs and they are are good vacs. I don't wash my vette there, as I only hand wash. Dave
I have the wall mounted one (and one for general/wet vacuuming). You can see it mounted on the stanchion. 35' of hose allows not only the ability to vacumn Vettes in the garage, but DD that are in the driveway!
