I have a 1999 C5 with LG headers and aftermatket stereo (HU Alpine IVA-W202R + 2 Alpine amplifiers)).
When I open the door the instrument lights switch always on, but sometimes when switching the headlights on , the instrument lights do not work. The headlight pops-up and ligths always.
Any advice? Do I need to buy a new headlight switch?
Thanks
During the day-time, the instrument panel indicators are controlled by the light sensor on the DIC which talks to the BCM which in-turn controls the indicator's illumination. At night, when you either turn on the headlamp switch or the sentinel, the command is sent to the BCM to now take the illumination information from the dimmer control directly. If your background illumination isn't working at night, then I would start with the dimmer control.
If your instrument lights fail when you turn on your lights, check your tail lights at the same time. If they are off you probably have a headlight switch going out. You can get around this if you have a headlight sentinel (option) by turning it on using the DIC. It's a temp fix to drive the car till you replace the headlight switch. Search headlight switch and you should be able to find the fix info.
