Default LS1 with Straight Pipes

There's a place near my house that can give me straight pipes for $150. That's alot cheaper than paying Borla for a catback.

Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Well, if you like loud, then good idea. If your neighbors and/or LEOs don't, then bad idea.

I just installed the Borla straight pipes, and honestly they aren't as loud as I thought they would be. At 6K, they are pretty damn loud, though.

Are they building the exhaust, or reusing the old pipes? Seems to me you could probably find a shop to hack out the old exhaust from the axles forward and then weld on some pipes and tips for cheaper than $150.

I put together a short before/after video HERE.

I had straight pipes and I didn't like them because they sounded terrible at idle in traffic. It sounded like I had bad mufflers. On the gas they sounded great

Straight pipes may not be that loud for an average Corvette owner, but they are really loud for a casual bystander. I have Magnaflow "straight pipes" and they came with X-pipe and two 4" bullet mufflers. It wakes up the right-side neighbor (not just the ones across the street) when I start it up in the morning.

I had LG's and SLP Loudmouth at one time and it is VERY LOUD. I loved it but the neighbors didnt like it so much. So now I have LG's and Corsa Pace Car. It is still pretty loud and at WOT its very loud. But to answer your question, I wouldnt get it if your neighbors are going to complain all the time and if you think you will get pulled over for it.

Hi JustWannaGoFast -

I have a deal for you -

I made a set of straight pipes from a stock C5 catback -

All the work is already done for you - so you can try them out and if you don't like them, you can sell them and go back to whatever you have now.

For the guys saying that straight pipes are too loud, my wife loved this exhaust on her coupe.

Here is a picture of the exhaust setup on her car -

and here is a short video clip to hear the sound
http://www.iammoon.com/vids/billy_bob_exhaust.wmv

I will take $70 for the exhaust - it is ready to bolt onto a C5.

I live near Peoria.

best regards-

One detail everyoen is leaving out is are they running longtubes, and are they running cats with the straightpipes?

With cats it might be tolerable, without cats no way in heck id drive it

Considering that I live in a town three miles from you and am familiar with noise problems. I say put some money aside for your next ticket.

Just my 2 cents

Huh? What? WOT. My wife can hear me two miles away, when I am shifting though the gears on a road going though a cattle farm.

Now I dont dare drive though my little town. They have a sign for truckers, "NO ENGINE BRAKING ALLOWED" posted on the edge of town. Wonder what they would think If I came screaming into town doing a heel-n-toe down shift into the braking zone before the stop light?

Hi Mudvayne387 -

Ok then - I will get an idea of the shipping costs to Utica NY and post here tomorrow.

I could bubble wrap the tips and flanges, and tape them together with strapping tape - should be fine for shipping. The tips seem pretty heavy duty (they are Headmann tips BTW. )

best regards -

Thanks for all the replies. I believe that it may be too loud and where I live people are insane. My neighbors had my motorcycle towed away because I had it on my back porch. I can only imagine what they would do if I had an insanely loud exhaust. I suppose I will just have to save money for the good stuff. Anyone interested in selling a Borla or Corsa exhaust system?
