I'm a new Vette owner and have noticed that at low speeds or idling at a light the engine temp will rise above 220 then go back down to 200-210. Is that normal and within safe operating ranges?

Yes! it is jebb.
The Vettes pretty much are set at that or let's say the fazns are set to cool down later rather than sooner.
You can get a cooler thermostat but you will also need to have the fans set to come on and off at different degrees!
you can do this two ways 1. Get a handheld tuner and reset the fans to come on earlier 2. Have a tuner locally do it!
It's not too bad but we all agree we don't like the hot temps.
I too have a cooler thremostat and my fans come on earlier!
Totally normal. The engine is built to run hot like that. If it gets hot enough outside, you can even see temps go up to 225 and 235 in stop in go traffic on a hot day...oil temp will get up there too.
I would suggestion every so often, check your radiator (behind the ac condensor) and make sure there is not debris starting to collect there. These cars sometimes act like a vacum since the ride low.. but again the temps you are seeing are very normal
MadMatt and FrankTank Thank you for the info. I feel beeter now. First ride in the new Vette I drove over a license plate in the road that nosily went under and I was worried that it may have done some damage to the cooling system. (shortly after two deer ran in front of me!!)
