Thanks EG for the updates.
Looks like a mess, could have been much worse if it were earlier. Glad most people are safe.

I'll be surprised if the official report calls this a tornado. Tornados tend to reloacte things... and the damage at the fiargrounds looked like straight-line winds (which can be as destructive as a tornado).

You're probably correct. Initial reports were all over the place.

Sorry to hear that. Toronados are extremely rare in that area of the country. Hurricanes are more common up there. In last 25 years, however, there have been several tornados spotted in PA.
Many evenings up there, you get moving thunderstorms that end within 30 min. Just normal occurrences.

I was in the parade to downtown when the storm struck. I don't believe there was a toronado but very powerful straight line winds. I had a tree fall in front me and had soft drink displays blown out of a service station right across the road in front of me. We hand to weave our way around fallen branches and limbs all the way to the interstate. The sheer volume of water standing on the road made driving tricky with out factoring in the wind. Crossing the bridge over the river going back into Harrisburg was scary. The crosswinds on the bridge made it nearly impossible to remain in one lane. I could see drivers in vehicles with more surface area than the Vettes were really struggling to maintain control. I can't explain what a relief it was to make it safely back to the motel.
We went back today and damage was pretty extensive. A lot of the vendors lost their tents and awnings. Lots had merchandise that suffered water damage. Many cars were damaged by flying debris or having tents collaspe on them.
I don't know of any injuries first hand but I did hear the same reports that have already been listed here.
I have some pictures of the damage I will post later.

My wife and I left the grounds at 4 pm and went to the Gingerbread Man pub for dinner and parked across the street. We were trapped at the entrance of the courthouse watching the parade when it hit. I was real concerned for all the children surrounding us. When we finally made it to the car, there was 3 inches of water in the street. Getting back to the Days Inn was a big relief. Also, it was 100 degrees earlier that afternoon.

Sue and I had left the fairgrounds just before 3pm due to the extreme heat and humidity. Went back to our hotel and hit the pool to cool off. We met Lori and Wayne for dinner about 6pm. Roughly an hour later it was a black sky, lots of horizontal rain and extremely high winds. Wayne got his vert top up without a lot of time to spare. Sue and I took off back to our hotel trying to stay ahead of the heavy rain but not very successful. Got a call from Lori later in the evening about the disaster at the fairgrounds. What a shame, a friend of ours, Gale Gee, figures he lost an easy $5000 in damage to the merchandise at his vendor spot. A freak thing but luckily a lot of people had left early due to the very unpleasant heat. Best wished from Sue and I to those that were injured.

After the new of Nickel sized hail we had the two Z's under the Hotel front entrance!! On the drive into the show Sun you could see damage on the ground, and each of those pop up tents, the small portable ones were beside each garbage all bent up. Wild, could have been the single biggest Corvette insurance claim ever!!

Here's another thread that has my first-hand experience of being in the middle of the storm with some after pictures. Judging from the other threads I've seen, we made out better than many.
