Default Question about Temp/Sensor readings in display

Hey guys how high will the temp sensor read outside temperature in the display? When I returned to my car at Carlisle Saturday afternoon at three and began driving out, the temp reading on the display was 79. My car was in direct sunlight, it had to be in the high 90's. Perhaps over 100! If the outside temp hits 100, does the display default back to another number? Will it display 3 numerals?

It will read 100 plus. Definitely three digit display.

Saturday afternoon around 4PM on the Highway 81 just outside Carlisle mine hovered at 99 then hit 100.

So you have a sensor problem
It's a two terminal drypack type connector black/ blue
on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Lift the hood, look between the radiator plastic shroud and the front clip. at the bottom(and near the front clip) going into the side of the plastic shroud is the sensor.
Undo the clip, use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the sensor our of the shroud insert the new one and reconnect.
10 minutes or less from hood up to hood down.

Thank you for the info, when I started running down the road, it went up to 98 degrees, but on the initial start, it read 79. I'll try cleaning the connections, then change the temp sensor if needed!
