Default Best octane booster?

Was searching the internet on best way to improve octane rating and came across this article.......
http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

Now I'm not talking about adding a meth injection or anything like that all I want to know is the best product or additive to my fuel to increase octane rating.

Has anyone ever tried the use of acetone?
Does it really increase fuel economy?
Will it increase octane and if so how much?
Will it harm anything in the fuel system?

I believe I may be having some knocking issues, and would like to know the best way to increase octane till I get to my tuner and have the tune played with.
Any info you guys can offer would be appreciated.

Check out Torco Accelerator ! Call and find out who your local dealer is and buy 5 gallons at a time--5 gl=$150.00 way cheaper than the mail order guys. Works good but makes your plugs red in color. I mix 1 qt. per tank.

I've heard about positive effects of acetone in fuel before but dismissed the idea. After reading the article I think I'll start experimenting with it in my daily driver. If I notice only positive effects I'll start using it in my other vehicles.

Will the Torco improve the performance of a Z that isn't FI? I have the Long tubes, GHL exhaust, blackwing, tune. Is it worth using in this setup? Any noticeable acceleration improvements??

Yep, torco works. Before, on the dyno, I was getting KR due to milled heads and having only 91 octane in our area. I purchased 5 gals from Joe, put only 16 ozs in the tank, and went for another dyno. No more KR and now I use only 10-12 ozs per fill up ( 12-14 gals of gas).

just dont buy the stuff they sell at pepboys or something like that, that stuff does not work. i have not used torco or even heard of it, but race gas mixed 50/50 with 93 octane will make a nice tank

This excerpt is taken from a octane booster thread archive I posted in earlier this year on here. I don't normally shoot down manufacturers claims, but in Torco's case I do since they blatantly prefer false advertising to sell their product. All off the shelf or mail order octane boosters are between 95-98 octane. Do the math when adding 1 qt. of 96-98 octane to 12 gallons or more...

Torco's claims are..well they are claims and CANT be backed up.They claim by using 1 qt of their unleaded product it will raise 91pump octane to 100. Ummmm...read on

You wanna tell me how a tested product by Chevron and Saybolt on calibrated ISO certified octane engines test out with a final 96.5 r+m/2 octane number is going to raise pump r+m/2 91 octane to over 100 using 1 qt of the product? It ain't possible period! It may work for some people making their engines run better and make more power, but it is no way raising octane to over 100 as they claim. Sure it will raise the octane some and will make more power on the dyno as claimed BUT the 100+ octane number claims are false.

Lets mentally do this and say we put 50/50 of Torco and pump 91 together. Test results have shown Torco's r+m/2 rating is 96.5. So lets add 96.5 and 91 pump gas and we get 187.5. We divide 187.5 by 2 and we get 93.75 octane. Yea, Id love to see how they claim it can raise it to well over 100 octane...This ain't rocket science here people. Do the math.....

I also tested it on octane engines as well and I even mixed it with pump gas and retested several times (see this thread on my testing) http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1801944. When pigs fly this stuff will make 100+ octane when mixed with 91 pump gas. Don't believe everything you read on a can or on a website.

You want racing gas and high octane you buy racing gas... mix is as needed its as simple as that.

If one is hell bent on using 1 qt of octane booster at some ridiculous $20+ price go for it. Go buy 5 gals of 100 octane u/l racing gas, mix one qt of it into your pump gas the same way, and be paying $2 a qt and get a higher end result than a off the shelf octane booster at 1/10 the cost.

Does racing gas have all the additives that normal pump gas has to keep the engine clean? I would think that in race cars, no one would be concerned with that since they rebuild the engines after each race.

That's the same reasoning I would have about using acetone in my $3.25/gal fuel on a street only driven car. I would be concerned about sensors throwing a tantrum with acetone...

Most people don't run straight racing gas in their street cars or even their track cars so it works just fine. They blend it down. Using octane boosters will be more detrimental to your engine than blending down racing gas for it.
