After 8 months of riding around with my newly purchased CLB in the console...I finally worked up enough courage to tear open the lower dash to install the CLB. Actually, I did it more out of fear that I have been living on borrowed time for far too long & didn't want to wait for the day the Z06 would need flatbed service with a malfunctioning locked column.
After getting over the initial shock of removing interior trim panels...the install is fairly simple....although, it always helps to have good instructions like these:
Thats good that you're brave enough to do that. I just took mine to the dealer and got it fixed under warranty. I don't know if they actually installed a CLB or w/e but it hasn't done it again since.

By taking it to the dealer I can guarantee that you did not get a CLB.
What you got was GM's harness that has a very high failure rate and you also had your computer reprogrammed so that when the harness fails, you will be stranded as your fuel supply will shut down and you won't even be able to move your car.
That is the reason I haven't taken my '02 MN6 in for either of the recalls. I just have a CLB.

I have a 2002 C5 Automatic. I heard this problem does not affect the 02 Automatics, so I haven't done mine. Anyone know if this is rumor or true?
Thanks ...Rocket

I have a '97 A4 that has had the computer "flashed" and the harness replaced by the dealer. I figure I'm living on borrowed time. Should do the same as you did!
