I know I am not alone in thinking we need some kind of rating system for vendors/sellers. There are several areas of concern to the mods. If one is started, does everyone start at zero? Will people add good or bad comments when they didn't even purchase? You obviously pose the chance of one sided stories, exaggerations, mis-truths, etc.
What are your CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS C5 general?
This is not the place to bash anyone or share your sad stories. Doing so will only get the thread shut down. I'd like to hear your opinions/suggestions.
How about thoughts from some vendors?
One or two bad comments would not stop me from using a vendor, but if a strong pattern is shown, that's a different story.
I like to hear the good and the bad, and then make my own decision.
I think this is a good idea, but would also like to see this system extend to standard members as well. Seeing as most of the selling woes happen from member to member. Also having the ability to post short comments per transaction.
However, I'm thinking it would also make the site look too much like fleabay though. Perhaps if the ratings were only displayed when you looked at the members profile, I'd hate for CF to look too much like an auction site. There may also be legality reasons involved on what the website is authorized to do.
In the end, everyone knows who great vendors are by reputation on the board...such a rating system would really be mostly beneficial for member to member transactions. My 2 cents.
Good idea(s) I have been around here on CF for a while and have bought and sold many items. I have never had any bad sales or buys, probably from being careful and making sure that all things were checked and double checked. I know that since I do not have any bad history and no problems then it would be a good thing. I'm guessing that probably only the ones that have had issues will be the ones that would object. Just my .02
I'll be looking forward to hearing or seeing more on this.
You could just rate the transaction from 1 to 10,or 12 or whatever,no commentary, just numbers. Then average the numbers and see how they stack up.That way there would be no unfair bashing from one bad experience and the numbers would tell the overall tale. For the vendors with enough good transactions one bad one wouldn't hurt that bad,and for the bad vendors a pattern would develop,ie. an ave. of 5 or 6 would mean a lot of unhappy campers. Then an ave. of say 9 or 11 which ever scale is used would mean a pretty good satisfation record. You could just post your number with no comment the number would speak for it self.

I like this, but I'd like to see some room for at least a small comment.

I think it's too easy to get carried away with negative comments. Keeping it to a numerical rating would eliminate that.
I believe a simple rating system is important for both vendors and member to member transactions. Most of the negative comments posted seem to come from member to member transactions. Its in everyone's interest that the site protect its members and vendors from the few dishonest people we all have to watch out for.

I think the "auction site" system is pretty good. The transaction was either positive, negative, or neutral, with a very short comment (and a very short response from the seller). It doesn't have to be complicated. Everyone who goes on the "auction site" knows that very large feedback numbers means the vendor has been around a while, very high positive percentages means the overall risk is low, and the recent history tells you if they are suddenly a risk or if they have "cleaned up their act".
I don' think starting at zero would be a very big problem for our trusted supporting vendors. Their rating will skyrocket in short order (get the pun?) and for the near future nothing stops us from doing what we do now,,, ASK the members.
Personally I don't think they could start this system soon enough.
