I just got my vette not to long ago and was wondering what you guys think is the best products to use for washing and waxing my baby. Appreciate the help guys....
Welcome to the forum and I see you are local, come on out to Biff's on Friday's around 7pm and meet a few of us Vetter's and on the cleaning suupplies lots of good ones out there so I will leave that to the experts on this subject
Go to Forums in the top left of this page, then General Corvette, then Car Care products. That section will have better answers.
I use Zaino as do many others but there are plenty of good choices. Welcome.
Haha.. welcome to my world about 3 weeks ago. Go to the car care forum and spend parts of the next week reading over some of the threads. If you want to do it right and do it the best you need the right info. I finally decided on using Zaino products and received them a couple days ago. Probably going to be doing some good washing this weekend. Good luck.
Here in central oregon I have well water on the property that has some minerals in it that will leave a slight residue. So I use a water filter (similar in concept to MR Clean wash & rinse system) that removes all contaminates ( even bacteria). Used in conjunction with Meguire's car soap, I don't have to shammy to get a spot free surface. I have a 40 ft motorcoach which this water filter insight has saved me countless hours of work.
I use Meguire's products for 36 years and I'm satisfied.
How often do you polish your car? Prefer long-lasting result or the real wet-look glance? Ease of use? just a few out of many questions...
In General:
- Optimal durability, very good results, to be applied with some effort (modular, more layers will enhance result) = Choose sealant, like ZAINO
- Less durablity (although there are huge differences depending on product), perfect results/ glossiness, easy to apply = Choose Carnauba Wax, my favourite is P21S
As there is no product that will satisfy ALL requirements, discussions about the "best product" are predetermined... Have a look into the carcare section.
Zaino is really good but the original prep is labor intensive and time consuming. The results are outstanding but you'll work for it First you'll need to wash with Dawn dish detergent to strip off any old wax, then dry the car. Next, clay bar the car, wash off, dry again. In my case with a black car I used PC Fusion to tackle swirl marks. I used my PC7424 to work it into the paint. Buffed it off and so far have applied 2 coats of Z5 and the results are excellent. I still need to apply a couple of coats of Z2 and then Z-CS Oh, I forgot to mention wiping down after each application with Z6 My arms are getting sore from all the buffing but it's worth it. Just don't expect it to be easy
Just plain old rainwater (right out of the faucet) and soap (any brand will do the same thing). Rinse well, dry. But then on the other hand, you could use any commercial brand of cleaners and waxes to do the same thing. Welcome to the forum and enjoy the car.

First off...welcome to the Forum.
Like they say above...if you check the Car Care section I believe you will find the major hitters to be Zaino, Adams and Meguire's. I've used all and they really worked well. Meguire's NXT is good and really the most easily found but I personally haved used Zaino on my 93 show car for several years. Zaino is more expensive and pretty labor intensive during the initial stage but is impressive with the result. I am currently testing Adams on my 98 and must say that so far the results have been equally impressive to date.
Please remember these are all just MY opinion and some of these guys around here get real passionate about this subject. I'm sure you will be happy with which ever camp you happen to land in.

I take it to the extreme a bit...Keep in mind, I used to have a black car!
Obviously, rubbing the paint surface with anything will cause wear in the form of microscopic to minor scratches. This is why when I did car detailing I never used buffing wheels as they produce swirl marks...orbital is much better, but by hand is best.
After I wash the car, I use the backpack blower to dry it...one less means of surface scratches!
I bought Zaino and applied it a few weeks ago. What a difference!! I have heard people on a lot of forums rave about this product and thought, oh sure. Well, let me tell you that I am now a believer!!
