Newbie Needs iPod2Car Install Help
I have just purchased an iPod2Car unit WITH the GM4 cable for install into a 2002 Z06 with the stock Bose head unit WITHOUT a CD changer.
Before I take the console and head unit out I want to know what to expect and where everything on the GM4 cable will connect behind the dash.
From the looks of the GM4 cable, it appears that there are 3 connections to be made one of which is to the iPod2Car "box". I am unsure where the other two connections are to made.
It APPEARS that one connection will be made into the head unit itself where the connection for the CD changer would be made (grey ontop of black female connector on the GM4 cable) but what connection is made to the oppositite end of the GM4 cable (male pins inside of a white connector)?
I am assuming everything gets connected on the GM4 cable and nothing is left "dangling" unconnected behind the dash. If someone could please explain the connections OR better yet show me photo's of the back of the head unit and where everything will end up being connected that would be better.
Thanks for any help. I want to have my bases covered before the console and everything comes out.

I was under the impression that the GM4 cable gets plugged into the head unit itself (that would be one of the two connections to make) so obviously something gets unconnected from the head unit to plug into the remaining connection on the GM4 - what and where is this?
Thanks - please let me know if I am misunderstanding the two above posts.
Hopefully my memory is not letting us both down here. haha

And where did you get the ipod 2 car box and GM4 cable and how much?
IE - unplug -the harness I am assuming- from the back of the head unit, plug said harness into the appropriate end of the GM4 cable, plug the opposite end of the GM4 cable back into the head unit in the same spot, plug the remaining plug on the GM4 into the iPod2car box, move switches 3 and 8 on the iPod2car box to the on position and then just put the head unit and console back together.
If anyone reading sees something I am missing or can confirm that I am correct please respond. Thanks!
I purchased the unit from theistore.com for $185 shipped. Make sure you specify if you have a CD changer or not as the cables you purchase will be different.

For those interested in this mod a few suggestions (in no particular order):
1) Take the ENTIRE console out which includes disconnecting the lighters, traction control, airbag off switch and fuel door (just unplug the connections, nothing else to do). They are all specific/different sizes so you cant mix them up when you reconnect.
2) Make sure to insert a soft towel or T-shirt inbetween the top of the air conditioner control unit and the bottom of the radio when sliding the radio out as not to risk scratching either (a second person helping hold this helps as the radio on mine was really snug).
3) To answer my own question from above, when you slide the radio out, there is only one connection from the harness to the back of the radio that will fit one specific end of the GM4 cable. Just unplug the harness from the back of the radio, plug that connection into the GM4 cable and plug the only free end of the GM4 cable back into the radio in the same spot. The third connection on the GM4 cable plugs into the iPod2car box (you cant mistake this for anything else).
4) Its pretty tight in back of the radio box so spend a few minutes positioning the iPod2car box and the cables (no real suggestions here just use your own judgement).
5) While the console is out, you will need to find a spot to route the cable from the iPod2car box to your iPod. I have seen several routing methods; drilling a hole in the fold down part of the console and feeding it underneath the console to the head unit, drilling through the cup holder, etc. I drilled through the ashtray but there is PLENTY of cable to do pretty much whatever you want.
6) You will need torx bit sockets to get the console out (#15 I believe will remove everything).
7) Play it safe and disconnect the battery (on C5's this poses no issues but on C6's I have heard this can pose reprogramming issues so do your homework C6 guys).
8) Thats about it, just take your time so you dont scratch anything and its a breeze. A second helper is a plus but probably not required.
9) You now have radio, in dash CD and iPod utilizing the AUX function (on non-CD changer C5's). Sounds awesome. Highly recommended!!
Thanks for everyones help!!
