I am thinking about doing a forged short block on my 02 z06. I was looking at a couple packages from various shops and saw some interesting combos. The 383 short block packages look good.
The car currently has LG long tubes, ASP UD pulley, 30lb injectors, AFR 59cc heads and LG G5x2 cam. (459 rwhp 424 rwtq). and has gone 11.42 @ 121.3 in high DA around 3000 ft.
Next (my winter project), I was planning on going with 3.90 DTE set-up and a ported FAST 90/90, looking at dishing out 4k with install.
For 4k, I can get a forged 383 set-up and get a bump in power. What makes more sense at this point.
Get the rear end brace and the bottom end, and Im sure you can scrap together enough cash before spring to get the 90/90.....Thats what I would do if it was me
From running a N/A setup myself , personally I'd sell my AFR's - downgrade a tad and get a forged/blown setup. You'll be making a good 550-600+ with the options of "easier" power upgrades. Might cost a little more, but you'll have a lot more power.
My thoughts: I dearly hope you have budgeted for upgrades to the rest of the drive line. And of course that even well-designed aftermarket systems break eventually from drag racing. A clutch is not a gentle way to deliver power and it's hard for the manual cars to stay alive at the high power levels.
In short, this is a slippery slope so I hope you have very deep pockets.

I would leave well enough alone as your car is making great power and will go even faster with the 3.90 gears and fast 90 set-up. I would keep it EXACTLY the way it is with your planned mods set forth above which will REALLY WAKE up the car. Then if still not satisifed throw on a little 100 shot of N20 (and safe thousands) and just have that little shot there on those rare occassions whe you REALLY NEED that extra power (like when a C6 Z wants to play). Be happy with what you got as you have a lot!!
If you REALLY MUST competely change your current set-up then I would hire a reputable LS engine builder who should be able to build you an LS3/L92 416 cid motor for around $10,000.00, which should make about 525+rwhp and have crazy torque throughout your entire power band.

Not personally but this is a very good way to get a good budget minded decently built short block (402 (LS2), 408 iron or alum LS2L92 syte, 427 LS2/L92 style, 413 LS2/L92 style, 416 LS2/L92, 440 LS2/L92 cid!
PM me if you want the name of the best LS engine builder who takes a longer time to build something b/c he is a smaller shop, has an incredible track record, history, and weatlh of knowledge and pays an incredible attention to detail (unlike many bigger engine building shops who more or less put a motor together much faster without checking all the tolerances like they claim they do. )
The machine shop who machines, balances, and assembles our short blocks also builds engines for alot of the racecars you watch on TV every weekend! Don't buy into the hype that because ours are less expensive that you're not getting the highest quality shortblock available!
By moving large volumes of parts, we are able to negotiate great pricing with our vendors. And we pass on those savings to you the consumer, not only when you buy parts, but also when you're purchasing an engine from us!
let me know what I can do to help you out! We have numerous shortblocks to offer with plenty of upgrades and options available to suit your wants and needs!
