Default Shipping tires?

I have a set of Pilot Sports that I want to sell. I want to make sure that I know what to expect when shipping them before I advertise them.

How do you folks go about shipping tires? Can I just use packing tape and afix a shipping label to the tire?

I have printed out address on printer paper and laminated it in case of rain. Then a ton of tape around label and tire.

Some people tape a 27" inch square (approx) on each side of tire. Then tape the heck out of the cardboard. Laminate addresses.

This works very well with wheels attached.

Typically about $20 per tire without wheel. Probably about $30 if wheel is included. Check closely on insurance. There may be a max of just a few $$, not the price of the actual tire.

yes, just exactly as you described. i sold some tires, but a mailing label on each one and tape the label securely.

I used FedEx ground.

costs me about $15 per tire for ground service. very reasonable...

WTF?

I am selling (4) tires and had a buyer, so I loaded them up in the truck and went down to UPS. Sparky behind the counter weighed them and on discussion (in which I made it clear I wanted the least expensive option) it came to well over $180 (NY to AZ). The shipping cost quashed the sale.

You think that 15 - 20 a tire is good for anywhere in the 48 states?

I have been trying to get that exact info for a while, thank you, I'll sure be getting my narrow backside down to FedEx asap

I've shipped several tires and bought several tires. Typically for normal tires around $40 /set corvette tires since they are larger around $60-70. The smaller tires you can tape together but the corvette tires are almost twice as wide as normal tires and have to be shipped individually, at least from what I've seen.

I've used this method with Fedex several times.

I have taped C5 tires together and shipped thru Fedex. No problem. Cost about $16 per wheel.

This is how the Tirerack does it - very simple and the least expensive way to do it.

It was a UPS Store in a shopping center. And as I said, the shipping quashed (killed) the sale, so I did lose the sale but didnt pay what they asked.

Thanks again, I'll head over to FedEx for a price for the next person that wants them.
