I have owned a Vararam VR-2B for about a year and a half now, and (like other forum members) I have experienced some "surging" under light or part throttle conditions. I contacted Patrick at Vararam, and he sent me a new design upper half (above the filter) with improved sealing. I have installed this "mod" and I'm happy to report that there is no longer any sign of flutter or surging at any speed or condition. This fix did NOT involve any "tune" as I still run a stock program. I think think this demonstrates excellent response to customer problems, and I am very happy with Patrick's new design pieces.
Actually I don't think its something that a tune can fix because after I had my vram installed I had LT's installed and had the car dyno tuned and it still does it.

Just to add a little info to this,
I was having a little problem a while back with mine (foam filter strand was touching the maf sensor) and took the filter out for a quick test run, on the way back under normal driving I got a bit of bucking. put the filter back in and it stopped. mine is running stock program as well.

Did you talk with your tuner?? When you install the Vararam, you are supposed to do the reprogram of the MAF sensor by disconnecting the battery for a while, clearing the memory in the computer, and then taking it for a long drive at moderate speeds, so the computer adjusts to the new flow. Now, it is possible that the tuner took that into account and adjusted your parameters accordingly. But the first place to start is with your tuner, I would think.

What is different about the "new" piece?
Do you have a pic?
So enlighten us and tell us the difference in the "new design" please.
I'm not sure which model I have.
Maybe some pics.
The flange area around the filter was increased and the gaskets were "beefed up" to create a better seal!!! This design has been in place for probably almost 2 years!

Thanks for responding. I'll take this to mean that what you're shipping now has corrected the seal issues that the OP was having with the old model, thus correcting the bucking and surging (provided of course that the install is correct and the computer relearning procedures are followed).
