Default Battery Question

I need to know what battery size/group our Corvettes are supposed to use (i.e. 75 or 78). This should be easy to find, but there is conflicting information both on these forums and on the internet. Can someone please help me with this?

Thanks,
LO PHAT

According to the AC Delco web site ... for a 2001 Z06 you want part number 75-7YR

Try this link ...

http://198.208.187.182/internet/Vehi...e=18&part=2476

If that doesn't work go to this site and Select PARTS CATALOG ...

Did you know that Optima makes both 75 and 78 size batteries?

According to their site, 75 is the size listed for a C5 Corvette. Searching their site differently, however, yields both 75 and 78 size battery part numbers for 350 engines.

This sort of confirms to me what I have been suspecting all along. 75 seems to be the "factory correct" battery size for a C5 Corvette. Perhaps the confusion on the internet is because many owners go with the bigger battery for the extra CCA or because they simply don't know there is a difference.

I'm surprised that nothing is mentioned in our owner's manuals....

Thanks,

My original factory battery says 86-7YR. How's that for confusing the issue?

My battery won't talk to me.

Might be a female battery.

OK. I just finished installing my new Optima 75 battery. I went with the 75 because most literature indicates that to be the correct size, and I figured if nothing else it should be a little lighter weight than the larger 78. Oddly, the smaller 75 wound up costing $10 more than the larger 78. Go figure....

Anyway, I must say the red top battery looks killer with those red valve covers on my torch red Z06!

Thanks again for the help on this one, guys.
