Default Sleeping Beauty (Storing car for winter )

Storing car for winter

Well the winter is coming, this Is gone be the first winter with the vette. so I’m wondering what are some things to prep the car to store it. The car is go be stored 100 miles away from me, cant do a lot off work on it and I think I’m gone save all the work for spring when I have some $.

Ok so it’s a 97 coupe, stored in a NOT heated garage. In Rockford IL the temperature are gone go below zero . Do I drain any fluids? jack up the car?. Take the battery out or not car is NOT gone be driven nor started probably for mouths.

I take any suggestions as little as the can be.

Thank you in advance Kamil D.

Well I forgot that most of the members live In Texas . Ok try this another way if you just gone store your car for couple mouths would you change your fluids before and after or only after. Do I care if the anti freeze that I have in the car is old and it’s gone sit in the engine for a long time without moving in the system. Will that causing any problems ??

I am vetteless right now, you could drive the car down here, I will enjoy it for you and return it when the Winter is over.

Sorry to hear/read these threads about your vettes getting stored, not sure if I could stand it. I am going without having one.

Fill up the gas tank and use some Sta-Bil in there to help preserve the gas. Hook up a battery tender to the battery whether you keep it in the car or not. Change the oil. Put a set of old carpet squares under each tire and if you want, add some air to the tires above the pressure you normally keep them inflated to. Some owners put moisture absorbing packets in the car and put mothballs in the engine bay and on a tray in the interior to keep pests away. If you have a car cover, put it over the car after you have cleaned the exterior.

I agree with everything as stated above....but not to keen on car covers.....Sometimes they do more damage than good.....If you clean it and wax the hell out of it, and have a nice car cover and not a walmart 20 buck one it should be good.....

There are enough good days in the winter here that I don't have to store.

I have a similar situation where the car will be parked in a storage unit 50 miles away from November until mid April. Because I drive it there and back I have no options on changing the oil, etc. I do over inflate the tires to 36 psi cold, place card board under the tires, remove the battery, grease up the weather stripping, unlatch the top and put a cover on it.

I also add moth ***** to the interior and Decon mouse bait around the car. I have never (knock on wood) had a problem.

The oil is changed immediately after getting the car home in the spring. Because I live where it gets to -40 nearly every winter, the coolant (anti-freeze) is set for that temp in all vehicles.

I is very hard not being able to drive the car or work on it during that time. I usually compensate by buying mods!

Make sure you run the motor a bit after adding the Sta-Bil to the fuel tank. This will help your injectors.

I put mine up the last week in November, not looking forward to it.

You don't need to change the oil immediately before parking it. But do change it before you drive it over. The reason is that used oil contains corrosive byproducts of combustion. You want to get as much of that as possible out so that it doesn't have all winter to eat on your bearings.
