Default Battery Tender

What kind and where should I buy a tender? Or even better should I buy one at all?

A search will give you much info. Ace Hardware has a cheaper one that is just as good.

I have been using the DelTrans Battery Tender for over 10 years on my H-D. Keep it on the charger year-round. Always fires up in a second.

Just recently bought another one, since my truck sits alot in the summer while I drive the 'Vette. And I will be using it on the 'Vette in the winter when I'm driving the truck.

I'm a firm believer in the Battery Tender. Not only will it extend the life of your battery, I think it will prevent a lot of potential electrical problems with the 'Vette. I bought mine at a local motorcycle shop (around $60), or you can buy them online.

I thought of buying one at K-Mart or Harbor Freight but thougth my 'Vette was worth more than a "cheapie" battery tender.

That's where I got mine for same price. A Black and Decker with adjustable (1 amp / 2 amp) setting. Use 1 amp for AGM batteries.

I strongly recommend a battery tender for a C5. I use it when I am not going to drive car for 3-4 days or longer. These C5's are voltage hogs, they can completely drain a battery in two weeks.

I've been using the Deltran Battery Tender Plus since shortly after I bought the car. The OEM AGM battery is almost five years old now, and working fine.

The tender has a very long warranty on it should something go wrong and it has performed flawlessly for me.

Agree 100%

As a veteran Custom Motorcycle Retailer, I can tell you that you are better off spending a little more on the Deltran. The cheaper ones have much broader tolerances and will overcharge a battery if given the opportunity. It happens more often with smaller motorcycle batteries than full size batteries, but it does happen.

I used the Deltran, which is the one that is REALLY called the Battery Tender. The others are just cheap trickle chargers. The Battery Tender has a chip in it that senses the proper charge to hold and maintain your battery. I used the older style on my motorcycle batteries years ago, and they never worked right. This one worked great on my 93 battery, and I have used it on my 03 with great results for winter storage. There IS a difference. Got mine at Pep Boys.

Another happy Deltran owner here. I bought mine for the Vette but use it on all 3 vehicles. There are 2 of us driving so 1 car is always unused for at least a day. Every now and then I'll put the charger on whichever is unused. When my work car was unused for over a week (and the wife didn't start it like I asked), it was dead the night before I needed it. I attached the Deltran and the next day is was fine. No need to jumpstart on the way to work.
I got mine on Amazon.
