Default Noob here, got some questions

Hi all, glad to be part of the club,

Bought a 97 over the weekend. Got a few questions.

1) The center console wont latch. It looks like the latch is hitting the piece it should slide under. Wasn't like that when we got it, but happened when the wife returned from getting gas. Any easy fix for this?

2) Its got the wagon wheels, I want the chrome ones that came on the 00's +. Suggestions?

Default Congrats and welcome

Congratulations and welcome. The console cover on these cars has a unique way of closing. The hinge sort of shifts as you open or close the console lid. If it is closed without allowing it to shift it hits things it shouldn't. My bottom latch piece was broken when I bought my 02 MY coupe and a fine CF member sold me one very cheaply which fixed it perfectly. I am careful to open and close it slowly allowing it to go where it needs to as I do so. Good luck.

thanks 04cad.

Nothing appears broken. And it worked numerous times after we bought it. Its just that neither piece is moving allowing the top piece to latch to the bottom piece. Not really sure which piece should move.

Chrome wheels never came on the C5, but you can get aftermarket ones that are chromed. Some vendors like West Coast Corvettes offer OEM chromed ones and many vendors offer reproductions ones. Check around the forum vendors for the best price.

Welcome to the family.
No chrome wheels on the C5, check the for sale section, and the forum vendors and find what you like there.

Funny. We're having a rash of those and I haven't heard it since I joined until recently...including mine.

The only way I know to fix it is with a new $18 part. I do know that if you pull on it and force it, you'll be buying that part whether you want to or not.

As for wheels, call the House of Wheels (a forum vendor on left).

What are these wheels called? And will they fit on my 97?

Is that the upper or lower part you're referring to?

Those are Y2K polished thin spokes. They are polished aluminum, not chrome.

And YES, they will fit your 97. Be aware the pressure monitor system in your 97 won't work with the pressure sensors in the 2001 and up wheels.
Not a big deal if you are taking your tires and putting them on the new wheels, as you can move your sensors into the new wheels.

Thanks. Anywhere you recommend looking? I've looked here, ebay and craigslist. What do these normally cost?

Thanks man. I was pretty confident I'd spend way too much time looking for one in as good condition for less money. I'm very happy with it.
