Need some help guys. I have an '04. Original battery. Started her up this AM and got a message that said"charging system fault". The guage is showing it's normal position, and the DIC shows 14.2-14.3??
What could be wrong???
A whole lot of different things to check. Start first with the battery voltage at rest not while the engine is running. You might have loose or coroded grounds or alternator conections. Mine ended up being loose and coroded conectors going to the starter. Good luck.
I had that code, once at the begining of last month, but have not seen it again.
I think the car was just toying with me though...it happend after I just left a store to run home and get a non-expired credit card. That was two charge problems in a row.

One charge fault was the cars, the other charge fault was....the wife?
I've had that message a few times, always after I have not started the car for an unusually long time. Could be a low battery that was at the point of having just enough juice to start the car.
I've never been bothered by it as it doesn't come back again until the same situation occurs (car sitting for a couple weeks between starts)

Actually the "other" problem was the fault of the moron who didn't pay attention that his credit card expired, nor did he put in his wallet of activate the new one when he got it 2 weeks prior.
I've got an '04 40K miles, same error message, replaced battery last month, all is good. There are some out there (delco oem batteries) that last more than 3 years, but the majority of them don't. This is the second GM vehicle I've owned, that the battery crapped out in 3 years.

Hi Glenn
Recovering from back surgery. Other than that all is well. How about you?
I've had that happen a few times. I think maybe the belt slipped when starting or something else that caused the alternator not to work right at start up.
