I have performed the column lock bypass on a previous C5, but this is puzzling me with my 02 Z06. My car has the column lock recall done by GM. Out of the clear blue this week, the service column lock message appears on the DIC. The steering column does not lock anymore, so it is not a problem, but I do not want to see the message come up everytime I start the car. The problem is thus: I have a GMPP warranty on my car with a 100 dollar deductible. Do I take the car in and let them re-diagnose the problem? Is is worth 100 bucks? Or is there another quick fix. I searched, but I could not find any topics relating specifically to my problem.
Thanks

So your current vette does not have a CLB, right? Even though the recall was done, you should still get a CLB. I assume the locking pin was removed, since it doesn't lock at all. I bought my 02 Z used from the 2nd owner who had the recall done. Just the K harness, not removing the locking pin. Even with the recall done, it locked up on me twice within a year or so. So I installed a CLB, no issues since.

I'm pretty sure you just have to reset the computer to get rid of the codes. There are two fuses you have to remove or disconnect the battery for a few minutes. That resets the computer. Do more of a search, I'm sure its posted which fuses to remove.
It's fuses #25 and 29. They need to be removed for at least one minute to clear the message. But first:
Clear the codes.
1) Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2) Press the "RESET" button to turn off any warning messages
3) Press and hold "OPTIONS"
4) While holding "OPTIONS", press "FUEL" four times within a 10-second period.
To reset the codes once in manual mode, press and hold "RESET" until it displays "NO CODES".
Now turn the key back off and remove it.
Remove the fuses and wait a few minutes and reinstall.
Rack the steering wheel hard stop to stop preferably left and back right, several times and on the last one hold it right side while you insert the key and turn it to ON.
If still nothing, start the engine and run it about 2000 rpms for a few minutes. Shut it off and repeat the process.
It should come unlocked.
Be sure to order the bypass, and you need to get it unlocked and working before you can install the bypass module. Call Corvettes of Houston and get it ordered because it will take a few days to get to you. Also remember they just had a hurricane so you may have trouble getting through.
If it is doing it then it will continue to do so. Jut get the CLB. Pull the fuses to reset and clear codes. Install CLB. Done with it. This is not unique and is also covered in the mega thread in C5 General or C5 Tech.
What I thought was strange is that the car has had the GM fix and now it is happening again, but this time the column is not locking up. I don't hear the motor at all moving the pin. I installed the CLB once, I guess I will do it again on this car.

It is impossible to tell what is going on without knowing exactly what IS in your car.
If the column does not lock, has your lockplate been removed, OR is the actuator just stuck in the unlocked position?
If your car has the Harness K in it, you should still hear the actuator motor cycle, even though the lockplate has been removed.
You say you removed the CLB. Was a Harness K kit installed, or is the actuator now still connected directly, with no bypass at all?
Let us know which GM FIX you had done.
Just because the column does not lock, does not mean there is not a problem. IF you had the harness k kit installed, try disconnecting it and reconnecting the actuator directly to see if the problem is in the bypass relay.

car has not had any recalls done, no k harness, pcm flash etc. column did lock on turning car off until this happened, steering has never been taken apart. I just get message and no steering column lock.
my car is doing same thing .
