1. Do you have your Owners Manual? If so, it contains the procedure for resetting the TPS. Note you will need a strong magnet to do this procedure.

2. With the key in and on, does the steering wheel turn freely? If not, the column is locked (a common issue until the owner purchases, and installs, the Column Lock By- Pass - available from many of the Forum Vendors listed to the left when viewing post.

If the column is locked - try violently shaking the steering wheel side to side (with the key on) - this sometimes works.

DO NOT LET THE DEALERSHIP DO THE GM PROCEDURE!

3. Instead of C6 bolts - buy a lowering kit from one of the Forum Vendors - made for the C5.

The wheel TPS sensors are covered in the owners manual and you will need a strong magnet. Your post and profile doesn't say what year and model of Corvette that you have, athough most TPS are the same. The service column issue is a problem with a lot of C-5's. You should acquire and install a CLB (Column Lock Bypass) right away. If you are seeing a message about "Pull Key, wait 10 seconds", then you need the CLB now. I know nothing about lowering bolts as my '99 and my '07 are both stock.

I would try to lower it with the stock bolts. You can get it down about an inch or so without buying a thing. Its easy, only takes about 30 mins per wheel. Good luck on the lock issue...

Well, here we go again. #1.read your owners manual, if you don't have one, get one. #2 have you driven the car since installing new sensors? Driving the car activates the TPS And, are they the right sensors. Early C5's use different sensors than later models. #3 column lock........

This column lock issue is really getting out of hand lately. There have been several posts regarding this in the past few weeks. Do a search and read them!!!. The first 2 issues of the recall removed the locking device in the column, but did not correct the fuel shut off feature!!!. Many of the after market kits don't address the fuel issue either. My neighbor just had the same problem . The car shut off when reaching 2 MPH. The 1st 2 portions of the recall had been taken of previously, His column didn't lock, but the fuel shut off. He also had an aftermarket bypass kit installed. He got the pull key and wait....... and also "column lock" on the DIC. He had the car flatbedded to the local dealer for repairs. They told him $450.00 for repairs!!!. He is somewhat disabled and doesn't speak very well so I did the calling to the dealer for him. I explained to the service manager that PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL .GM-P06-028-04006C needs to done. This is an unpublicized safety recall. There is a phone # in this bullitin that can be called by the service dept and it explains that this is a SAFETY RECALL and will by covered by GM regardless of mileage, time, or # of owners. The dealer didn't believe me.I said just call the #!!!. They called me back about 1/2 hour later..They will fix my neighbor's vette @ NO CHARGE.per GM. This "C" version of the recall elimiates the fuel shut off issue. The first 2 portions of the recall MUST also be done prior to the "C" portion. I believe that this latest version also instructs the dealer to destroy the previous 1 and 2 recall paperwork. From now on, they are to do the entire procedure, remove the locking devices and install the new kit that eliminates the fuel problem. Hope this helps.

One other point here. ...Even if you do all the above fixes for the column lock issue. you still have to correct the problem that triggered the column lock. The column lock is a result of something else going wrong. In my neighbors case, he left the interior lights on overnight and killed the battery. The low voltage (when he tried to start) triggered all sorts of electrical gremlins. Most of the bypass kits available trick the car into thinking the column has locked, but, it hasn't. They do NOT address the fuel shut off. Replacing the K harness with GM's new harness does. Doing all the above will keep the column from locking and the fuel from shutting off. You still should find out what triggered it in the first place. Several owners have had trouble with the GM fix. That's because they have only had the first 2 portions done. They had the locking plate removed, but still get the fuel shut off and the "Service column lock" comes up on the DIC The first 2 portions have shown to be a bandaid fix at best. Let the dealer fix it (for free) and don't worry about it anymore...

If you need lowering bolts, I hope you never have to go over a speedbump or up a driveway.

You can use google to find out how to do the TPS reset, look in your manual,or have discount tire do it for you for free if you are in there for work.
