Default Headlight Aiming Help

I have been attempting to align my headlights using the factory "Aiming Screen Method" option, but I am not getting the desired results. I need your input in deciphering what the manual is trying to say, here, because a different perspective is what might help me shed some light on the subject, so to speak.

Note that the instructions do not specify aiming spots for left and right lights, however, there is a tolerance of 4 inches allowed to the left and right of the centerline. So, what I did was align the left light 2" to the left of the centerline and the right light 2" to the right of the centerline.

But, given that the spot aiming is done 25 ft. from the "Aiming Screen" per the instructions, when I actually drive down the road, the light beams seems to converge into one narrow beam.

I am now wondering if steps 4-11 really mean that you're supposed aim BOTH the left and right low beams at the SAME spot. If so, that means the beams will cross each other at a distance greater than 25 ft., right? Maybe rather than having two beams shining parallel down the road, they are indeed supposed to cross, which gives more coverage?

Another thing I noticed, which may or may not be related, is that my driver side high and low beams are offset differently from my passenger side. If I align both low beams to the same vertical spot, when I turn on my highs, the driver's high beam is higher than the passenger's. If I align the highs to the same vertical height, when I turn on the lows the driver's side is lower than the passenger's. Is this supposed to be this way as a means of reducing glare for oncoming drivers when the lows are on, and I should just get the highs aimed correctly, or do I have a bad driver's lens capsule?

ANY and ALL help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

I need to align mine too, but after I read the shop manual I decided to wait until someone came up with a simpler set of instructions.

the only way I got mine the way I like them is trial and error at night.
pull in the garage, aim lights, go for a drive............repeat until satisfied.

I've never even thought about trying to follow a book on adjusting headlights...I just wait until it's dark, find a flat wall with level ground and then adjust them until the light is the way I want it...Used this method on every car/truck I've ever owned and never had a problem yet.....I've even got HID's on the Corvette and oncoming traffic does not flash me so I know they are set fine.

My personal opinion is the right light is for the right side, the left for the left...you try 'crossing' them and you'll be out of the 'reach' of stock headlights LONNNNG before you get the pattern you like back on the road, I KNOW it's beating a dead horse,...but if you REALLY want to be able to SEE, you need to put the HID's on the Corvette....BEST $$$ I've spent on the car yet! You'll simply be stunned at how much better you can suddenly see.

Already have HIDs, and after doing some research on the web, you're right. The factory instructions SUCK. They are completely wrong, compared to everything else I've read.

Like you said, I aligned them with the left on the left of center and the right to the right of center, straight ahead, and all is well.

The only problem I have is a defective driver's light, where the difference between high and low is too great. It's been like that since day one, though, so I just aligned the lows wear I want them, and that's it.

Besides, with HIDs in the lows, highs and fogs, I have more than enough lights, especially since I have highs and lows on at the same time anyway, so if one light shows me bird nests at night I can live with that, because just one of these HIDs provides more light than all four stock lights ever did!
