I feel like such an idiot having to post about this but here it goes.
I did the first oil change on my C5. I used the parts look up catalog and picked up a 3506 (pretty sure but regardless of the number, it was the filter that was for the C5). when I took the old filter off, it is a PF 46. I was a little worried but the only difference I can see is the 46 is a bit longer. the 3506 fits fine and there is no oil leaking under my car so I guess that is a good sign.
please help me out because I feel pretty dumb :o
any insight?
BTW...I did do a search

Reason: because I searched
Fram filters have NEVER had a good reputation and your saying this one is shorter which tell me it is going to filter LESS (smaller filter area)....why wouldnt you spend the extra dollar and get the right AC-Delco???
first off, thanks for the replies. The fram is shorter so I am not concerned about the clearnce but I appreciate the warning
next...I know I know I know I should have bought the delco but I have a legitamate excuse. I had to get the oil changed and no delaerships are open here on a Sunday. I did buy the top of the line fram-it cost me about $12 (Canadian) so I hope it is a little better than the regular one. When I need a change next year I promise I will get (at least) the delco!
thanks for the help...and the

Nope...your excuse is lame
The PF46 can be bought at nearly any auto parts store. The one place I've found that does not carry them is Wally World.
next time go with NAPA Gold, Wix, Purolator, K&N, Mobil 1,
Anything is better than a Fram!
Personally, I like the Wix. And remember to be absolutely sure to get the right size (height). A little too long and that puppy will be snapped right off!
At one time I thought that Fram probably made a good filter. That was back in '73. Just as I was about to install one on the 454 in our new 4 spd. coupe, I looked down inside it and saw metal shavings. Never touched another Fram, likely never will.
You'll probably be OK this one time with a Fram but I wouldn't keep trusting my luck if I was you.

Not sure you got an answer to your question
Looks like its the correct filter and if its not leaking I'd say you're good to go. When all said and done the filters there to take out the large particles. Were talking fine details here so theres no panic to change it straight awy.
You'll always get opinions around here on which are the best oil, tires, filters etc but quite often the opinions are not supported by facts. FRAM make a lot of filters so I'd say you'll be fine under the circumstances. Granted they're maybe not the best but it depends how long you keep the oil in the car. If you normally run 100% on the DIC and you're still worried, you might want to condsider an early change to get the correct filter back on.
Thanks for all of the advice guys...invaluable as usual!
Wally didn't even have a filter to fit so I had to go to canadian tire. they had regular fram, 'synthetic' fram (the one I bought at just over $12), quaker state and some brand I had never heard of.
I will hang my head in shame until I get the delco on. I will only be able to drive the car for another month (if I'm lucky) and then it will sit for the winter
I will probably change the oil next spring so it will get a delco (or better) then.

Several years ago, as an experiment, I cut open a Fram filter for my truck and the filter element was not unlike CARDBOARD. Don't know if they have updated their "filtering technology" but I have not bought one since.
