[QUOTE=tellefan;1562131412]I think if Mike wants to charge 20.00 next year then he should open it up to all vendors to sell their stuff at their booth. Just like Bloomington.
I wish I'd known about this before, we saw the booth, the wife was sick and we didn't sign up and hang around. I've spent a fair amount of money at Mid America, his prices are not always the cheapest, but I figured what the hell, he supports the hobby by throwing Funfest.

If Mike wants to play cheap, then I'll play cheap. There are many vendors to pick from. I guess they will call it "Mike Fest"

Mike talks a good talk, he states that they never forget that the customers sign their pay check. He also states that Funfest is a way to give back to their customers. Oh well there goes another good thing.

I agree with you. I can see all there stuff in a book they send me every other month. I will go next year if it is free, but if I have to pay $20, I will skip it. There really wasn't to much see other than all the vette's.
I used to go to Bloomington and it had many vendors. I liked seeing different items, not just items that you can see in a catalog everyday.
Shame on them for charging if they do. I won't be back if they do.

If $20 bucks a piece (or is it per car?) is going to keep folks home, could you afford to go anyway? Maybe it's their way to thin out the lookers from the buyers? If you're willing to shell out $20 then you want to be there and will maybe buy something?? As opposed to SEMA where they charge you $50 and you're happy to pay it to get in. On top of that you have to be associated with a auto related business to get in as well. They have no shortage of folks wanting in. I predict Funfest will be just fine.

Not much in life is free these days and if you own a Vette, $20 is not going to hurt your pocket book one bit. And I'm a tightwad!!

Hang in there folks!!

I have been to SEMA. It may take days to see the show. Funfest is one company showing their goods that you can see in the catalog or on line. I went up there for my first time to see new items. Everything is in the catalog.
There is no way you can compare the SEMA show to the Funfest. It isn't even close!

He can do as he likes, but to me it would be an awfully stupid move. People are coming to buy HIS stuff from HIS catalog. Nobody there can buy anything from anyone else. And he must be getting a cut of the concessions and $3 cans of beer. I sure wouldn't start charging people. What happens to the publicity in the magazines if attendance drops by 1/2 next year because he starts charging? That would not do him any good.

Has anyone actually called Mid America and verified this?

I just called and they said they don't know if they are going to charge the $20 or not next year. I think they are "feeling" corvette owners out on the charge.

I guess it's kinda like them telling some customers they get 10% off and free shipping. Then telling someone else you get either 10% off and no shipping, or shipping and no 10%. Then they tell another customer no discounts, no free freight. I agree they are trying to feel out the customers.

As stated before it's the point. Just like someone else said, you go and buy his stuff at his show.

And yes, I can afford the lousy 20.00. Since we own two C5's we've spent thousands and thousands of dollars there. Not to mention the motel bill for two nights and food.

Mike had stated in the past, this is his way to give back to his customers. Maybe he should quit sending out catalogs that get thrown out every month and use that money toward Funfest.

I am not against paying 20.00 however, then the show should be presented like Bloomington Gold. Many vendors to sell their stuff.

It's a simple choice for me, I can spend my money elsewhere. And I can save lots of money by not attending next year. David

P.S. Just because we didn't hang around all day doesn't mean we didn't spend a fair amount while there.

Hey if Mike can raise $20, let's raise ours $30....
Our Hotel in Effingham was $142. per night and we were told it was going up to $187.00 per night upon check-out. Will hold room to last minute then will cancel it for 2008. Probably won't be going back, I fully understand inflation, but don't like to feel like they will be sticking it in and enjoying breaking it off...

Getting to be like Pottery Barn mailings w/ the frequency and nothing much changes except for the 'new' items in front.

My hotel room for Thursday night was $89.00. for Friday & Saturday $125.00. No matter where you go no matter what the event is or if it is prime weather you are going to pay a premium price.

If you wait to the last minute and cancel you don't hurt the hotel, they will rent the room. You hurt someone who is looking for a room trying to make plans. If you know you aren't going to go put the room on the Forum and give somebody else who wants to be there a chance to go and enjoy the show.

Funfest. Bloomington Gold, Carlisle, are all great shows, all very commericialized, all riddled with the corvette tax etc. Bottom line is does the price overide the enjoyment? If the answer is yes then don't go stay home and save your money. If the answer is no then go have a good time with those who share the same interest.

Default $20 won't keep me from going - but.....

I don't care either way about the $20.00, but I wonder why the courteous people who handed out the goodie bags weren't instructed to inform all of the people who were preregistered this year or were registering this year at the Funfest about the requirement to register while at the Funfest this year to avoid the $20.00 fee next year? I was too busy checking out the cars to read any signs that may have been posted about signing up while I was there. I would think a better plan would be to offer free passes for anyone ordering XXXX dollars of purchases from their catalog each year. That way they get the business and the loyal customers get a free pass. Mid America is a class act and the show is fun, but it seems like the process to move to a paid show wasn't thought out very well.... IMHO

I agree if I hadn't walked right into booth after leaving registration I wouldn't have known about it until Saturday when people on the grounds started talking about it.

It could have been handled much better. Who knows maybe they'll stick some of those sign up slips into the gazillion catalogs they send out. LOL

I did a bad job of comparing the two... I've only been to SEMA. We were supposed to go to FunFest but missed it two years ago... I thought FUN FEST was more than just Mid America's stuff... hmmm...

SEMA is an awesome show that I highly recommend. It is a bit of a pain to get into, though very worth the trouble!!

Default Directly from Mike Y. & Staff

I got the following feed-back from Mike Yager and his staff this morning:

1)
....., I appreciate the chance to address the registration fee for 2008 and ask for your help to spread the facts. There is NO charge for Corvette Funfest 2008 per Mike Yager. So, if you didn’t register your Corvette over the Funfest weekend, the 2008 registration will open in January for next year.
Best of Luck,
Nancy

2)
Hey Dick,

"No charge for Corvette Funfest next year. We give away over $500,000 to produce Funfest. We will continue to do it for FREE."

NO CHARGE!! J

This is consistant with the information I was given by Nancy B. at MAM.

Seriously, if they charged $20 per head or per car, would it really be so bad? Bloomington Gold was $40 per person for the weekend. I'd still go...even if it was farther than 60 miles. We go to BG every year and that is almost 300 miles away for us...and I still pay $80 for both of us to get in for the weekend.

The man has said there will be "no charge". Why are you being so insistent on wanting to pay something?

Default Thanks Mid America for clearing this up!

Mid America puts on a very nice show and $20.00 per car for those attending the event [B]AND[B] the concert might be okay, the only thing I wondered was why the staff we dealt with didn't point out that we needed to sign up while we were there to avoid the charge for 08 or why they didn't use their database of who actually showed up to allow later free registration for the 2008 show? If they want to charge $20.00 for every car that shows, I would have been okay with that too, it is after all, their event. Maybe they wanted to test how effective the banners and booths are in relaying their information. All in all though, a top notch event.
