Default Pay For Funfest 2008????

I have heard that if you did not sign up for free admission during this past Funfest for next year, then the cost will be 20.00 per person for 2008. Again, this is only a rumor. Has anyone else heard about this?
Thanks, David

I signed up again at the show, but did hear some others stating that if one did not sign up at the show, there would be a charge. I believe that this year was the first year that Mid America charged for daily parking for non - Corvettes as well. There used to be a charge for the concert if you did not drive a Corvette, but I thought the daily parking was always free.

Correct. If you didn't pre-register at this year's Funfest it will cost $20.00 in 08.

Default I wish I had seen the sign up info while I was there :(

I was at Funfest this year, but was enjoying the cars and food and didn't see the notice about signing up while you were there or paying $20.00 next year, it would have been nice if the people handing out the goodies had pointed that out to each participant. I think the Funfest is a really neat thing, but, I predict a leveling off or a reduction in attendees next year due to the parking fees and $20.00 fee. Lots of places have free car shows every week and places like Pigeon Forge have car shows almost weekly and there is lots to do while you are there besides seeing the beautiful cars. $20.00 isn't prohibitive, but it is always better if it is free! That is IMHO. Having said that, I may go next year and pay the $20.00 anyway

I didn't catch that either, I saw the booth, but didn't think much about. $20 isn't too bad, but it was free hopefully. more attractions with the extra cash. I'm not holding my breath

I think if Mike wants to charge 20.00 next year then he should open it up to all vendors to sell their stuff at their booth. Just like Bloomington.
I wish I'd known about this before, we saw the booth, the wife was sick and we didn't sign up and hang around. I've spent a fair amount of money at Mid America, his prices are not always the cheapest, but I figured what the hell, he supports the hobby by throwing Funfest.

If Mike wants to play cheap, then I'll play cheap. There are many vendors to pick from. I guess they will call it "Mike Fest"

Mike talks a good talk, he states that they never forget that the customers sign their pay check. He also states that Funfest is a way to give back to their customers. Oh well there goes another good thing.

Maybe the hand writing is on the wall. It seemed to me that there were less people at this years show. Food for thought...................

If I had to choose (and I don't) I would not miss Bloomington Gold.

Ahh... I wouldn't miss Funfest either.

I signed up, but I would pay the $20.

Otherwise, I would sit at an Illini football game. (and be out a couple of hundred dollars).

I've been going since 97 and it keeps getting bigger and better every year. I don't know of anywhere you can go for that kind of a 3 day show for $20.00. I signed up for the free registration next year but I would pay if I had too.

It could be Mike's way of thinning things down some before he runs out of room. He has bought alot of ground and made huge improvements but somewhere in the future it will be too large if he doesn't curb it back in some manner.... Just a thought.

Isn't that like saying GM will raise their price to slowdown the purchase of cars cause they can't keep up? I think MAM is becoming the 600lb gorilla. They do it because they can? Most prices are already inflated, they discontinued the Funfest purchase discount and free shipping this year, now $20/person next year and who knows what surprise in '09. What a windfall. JMHO.

Default To pay or not to pay?

Seems this is an emotional issue as very few Vette owners can't afford $40 for 2 people to attend a 3 day event. It seems reasonable to me for Mike to charge for this event but I also agree, if we pay, we should have "other" vendors there. I think the $20/person will cost Mike some level of reduced loyality from customers which may not be the smartest thing he ever did!

I think there is a price fixing conspiracy going on in Effingham.
Our hotel told us upon checkout that they were raising their room rates for next year's FunFest by $30 a night!!!!

Hey if Mike can raise $20, let's raise ours $30....

Mid Am doesn't make enough at Funfest? If they charge I won't go.
Sounds like they are getting pretty greedy.

We didn't stay this year because the wife was not feeling well. Since we didn't stay we canceled our hotel reservation. I think Effingham is used to huge crowds at Funfest time. Our room was going to be 169.00 a night times two. So lets see.... room 340.00 for two nights, that's rape, plus meals, fuel etc. We were told either we'd get 10% off or free shipping, not both. I understand this thing is not cheap to put on. I realize 20.00 is still a bargain. It's the principal of the thing. Again, if we have to pay then we should have other vendors selling at their booths, just like Bloomington Gold.

what about those that wanted to attend this year, but had to cancel due to a family situation?

Seems sad to punish those that truly wanted to attend; but couldn't.

From what I have been reading, you are right - if you didn't sign up at the show for next year, there will be a fee.
