does anyone know how much GM in the US charges
for headlight motors? i will be in FLORIDA in feb. and will pick one up if its worthwhile. the vette will be put away for the winter shortly anyway.
I believe a GM parts house will charge you about $250 per side (for parts only). As another poster said, the problem you are most likely to encounter is with the plastic (nylon) gear inside. It first starts making an awful grinding noise, then eventually the lights won't pop up or go down.
I don't believe GM sells the gears, they will want to sell you a motor. But there are some excellent aftermarket "brass" gears available that offer a "permanant" solution to your gear problems.
I recommend the Rodney Dickman gears. They come in a nifty little kit that includes everything but basic tools to complete the job.
With the older C5's, the motor housing can be split by removing some screws. In later years, you have to crack open the housing along a glued seam then re-epoxy it upon replacing the gear. Rodney's kit includes the epoxy as well as a "T-brace" that is easy to install and helps ensure that your glue job holds once re-installed.
the gears have been replaced, but the plastic case is cracked on one housing.
call fred beans dealership in PA, 610 495 1800 and state you are with corvette forum and they will give you a price. Generally about 40% off the retail price. Shipping is extra.

Get one from one of the forum GM vendors and have it shipped to the address where you will be in Feb.
