buy yourself an 04. last year C5's were made, collector car.
just bought mine a few months ago and can't say enough good things about it. Mine was fully loaded with every option except the 3:15 gears which I really wish I had but still love it just the same.
I would advise you to get the GMPP warranty with it though, just in case something goes BADLY wrong and definitely go for the $0 deductible.
The HUD I think was an option until 2000, maybe 01. Then it was standard but not sure if that includes the Z06. They say some 01's have oil problems but many seem to have escaped that issue. I hear sport seats are the best. I have sport seats so I can't say how the non sports are but I love mine and it's a DD so they are comfy enough for that. 3.15 was the highest rear end in the non Z06 so depending on what you want the Vette for you might want to look for that. Also Active Handling is nice and I think maybe have been an option for the same years as the HUD. It also got updated at one time and I don't know what year that happened.
There are some links and threads around with all the info and more. Best of luck.

I would look for 2002-04,some earlier problems were worked out by then . IMHO 3.15 perf. axle if auto, sport seats,a couple of different suspension combos out there to look at(compare) and the Magnesium wheels are lighter and pretty sharp on the right car,but also somewhat less structual integrity than the thin spokes. There are plenty out there to be had take your time and you will find exactly what you are looking for
