It looks like the corvette ss but i know they are making a stingray too
They are not making any stingray, I wouldnt even bet all my money on Chevy naming it the Zr-1, chevy likes to toy with us to create a buzz, so the dealers can bend us over. I hope they dont call it a ZR-1, that should be retired for the C4 model, it hasnt been long enough like the 63 Z06 was to be used again. Personaly I think each special car should have its own name, I didnt like it when they carried the Z06 name over to the C6, chevy can be more original than that, but they dont care, they just want our money, its obvious by just looking at the standard model vs Z06 vs the ZR-1, they really didnt put much effort(or money ) into making each car really stand out from each other, when paying 40k more from the base model car one should expect to stand out, the ZR-1 does this again. This year I had my 2001 Z06 up for sale(thought I had it sold, but that fell through) I had over 50k to put down on a new Z or Viper, I liked the gen 2 Viper better than the gen 3, had a deal for an 07 Z but Ive already had 4 corvettes, have a 10 second 2001 Z that I love, and didnt think the new Z's exterior looks were different enough from the base model to constitute the buy. I found a 99 Viper ACR black with silver stripes it already has gears, exhaust, hardend half-shafts and short shifter, was the last year for the aggressive cam and forged internals on a Viper. Gen 2 Vipers have low compression 9.5.1 perfect for high boost(I'll be running 10 lbs without a sweat), so I bought that cash, have money left over to pay for 50% of the supercharger that will give me 850 hp on stock internals, and still have a 10 second Z06, when I see a picture like this it makes me feel even better about my desicion. Yes that car is a mule, but we all know that the only exterior difference will be the hood, fenders and wheels. I dont like the fact that they are going with a smaller engine, and using boost to give it its power, why not keep it a 427 lower the compression, put in at least forged pistons, as the Z06's cant run high boost with all that high compression and cast pistons, they blow up, mine did took the supercharger out.
It's called a ZR-1 and that pic is a few months old. There are more recent pics revealing a carbon fiber roof and ceramic race brakes. I wouldn't exactly say GM is going backwards by using less displacement since they are adding a blower and giving the motor stronger internals. It will definately have the highest power potential of any Corvette in history. Ever heard of the 03 Cobra motor? 6.2L is still large.... it was only 3 or 4 years ago that the 5.7L was the largest engine available.
^^^^ Thanks for the updated shots! Sits low, looks good. Interesting to see the camo on the front cove. I bet they go back to a 3 gill'd vent, but we'll see. I hadn't heard ZR-1 was official. Cool stuff.
OH don't get me wrong. I'm not calling it small hehe
Just trying to look to the future. What are they planning for an end game? GM could be fighting AWD cars(skyline, R9), and maybe that's what they should be doing with the top of the line go AWD. I'm just saying what is the highest performance true americanized they could get. IMHO a 427 engine would have been super cool (on the down side I bet it would have been a nightmare to maintain). I want the corvette to stay in the line up the rest of my lifetime, which means there must be a plan to keep it updated and at the top of the heap.

anyone else glad we got the history on this guys life and why vipers are what vipers are?
