I always notice when someone is selling Z06 exhaust that sometimes they mention how many miles are on the them.........Z06 exhaust is made out titanium It pretty much lasts forever..... right? Or am I way off on this? All metal experts please chime in
Wow that interesting titanium exhaust! I have a bit of maching with it and boy it catchs a spark it flashs and makes a pretty fire with that magnesium in it. And yes it will last almost forever. i don't remember what temperature flash point is, i'm sure its pretty high though.

???? Huh? Titanium is an elemental metal, not an alloy containing magnesium. Ti itself isn't a fire hazard like magnesium. What am I missing here?
I think the main issue is not with the actual metal casing or pipes. It's the insulating material inside the mufflers. They will breakdown after years of usage. That's why all mufflers seem to get louder through out its life time.
Oh yes it's from experience! I went to a muffler shop and I wanted to do the A & A mod for more sound. Well he tried and burned holes in them then the welds popped out. Needless to say they're ruined!

Titanium is an element but is often used as titanium alloyed with aluminum in the aircraft industry. I do not know what the make up of our Ti exhausts are but would guess it is a alloy. Ti does burn when heated to 1,100F. A number of titanium fires occur when breaking down devices containing titanium parts with cutting torches.
