Its about that time for an oil change as my readout is at 9%. Obviously puttting in Mobil 1, but not sure which # to go with. My vette has 41k on it and I know the numbers on oils have something to do with mileage. So what do I get? 10w30? ect... thanks
the numbers have nothing to do with mileage.
A synthetic motor oil meeting GM4718M is required.
5W30 is the preferred viscosity or weight.
10W30 can be substituted if the lowest temperature your car will experience between oil changes is above freezing.
with 02blackbeauty19 stick with
5W30. there is no reason to go to 10W30
I agree with blackbeauty, after all isn't it spelled out on the oil filler cap? Sure you can use Royal Purple in it too if that "floats yer boat"! Just stop trying to out guess The House of Bowling Green

I spoke to a Mobile 1 technical guy, a short while ago and he told me that essentially, 10W-30 in synthetic oils is obsolete. It provides no benefit over 5W-30 and the 10W-30 takes longer to circulate through the engine at startup temps - even at 70 degrees F.
This particular guy lives in Texas and was using 0W-40 Mobil 1 in his vehicle. For most of us C5 people, 5W-30 is the best choice when using Mobil 1.
