We have a 99 Vert. I have seen a couple of products advertised and would greatly appreciate comments of those who have used them: l. "Sound Killer" compartment divider mats (carpeted material) that seem to be available from several vendors. 2. Convertible Rear Noise Covers from the Corvette Museum Store...padded and color coordinated to exterior color. My wife and I are 60 and love to drive with the top down. However, its difficult to hear one another (no comments!) or hear the tunes on the great Bose system. Many thanks for any reviews, info or help you can provide.
I'm 57 and I don't think the 2 products you mentioned will help much with the top down. I have trouble hearing at highway speeds with the top down. I do have one of the carpeted trunk dividers and I think they may cut down on the noise with the top up. The windscreen might help with wind noise at highway speeds, but I have never tried one.
The verts are loud at highway speeds with the top down, tough to get around that.
I have never ridden in one with any of the screens, but the consensus seems to be that you really need the windows up with the screen in place to get full advantage out of them.
It is supposed to help quite a bit, but between the appearance of the screen and the windows up it gets a no vote from me.
But if you can live with it, you should check them out.
I have the Vet Net and must use it religiously when the wife is with me while the top is down. As someone has already mentioned, optimum wind (thus noise) reduction is best when the windows are up. It helps a bit when you roll them up approx 5 inches. This did not meet my expectations because you will not eliminate all wind turbulence.
The two products you mentioned might be great while the top is up. I'll be interested to hear others inputs on that.
The only thing i could advise is that if noise is a real big issue, put the top up
I've found my 01 vert to be suprisingly quiet with the top up at highway speeds. My brother even remarked at how quiet it was compared to my BMW M Roadster that i had.
I got the "Divert-a-breeze" from Mid-America. It's a vinyl "leather looking" piece that slips over the top of the seat backs and velcros in place. Doesn't look the greatest, but it does cut the wind noise down appreciably, and makes it easier to carry on conversation and listen to "tunes", and was only $40 or $50, much better than the price of a VetteNet. The other advantage is when you take it off, you can fold it up to stow in the trunk.
I feel your pain. Or should I say I've felt your pain.
I've fully insulated my vert and added the trunk divider from Ecklers but the ONLY product that makes top-down driving bearable for normal conversation and audio listening is the VetteNet.
Get the latest model. Its lower, sleeker, more effective and easy to stow.
Most of the time when I go anywhere and park I'll put the top up. The VN is easy to stow right on the front seats until I return and put the top back down, or just as easy to stow it in the trunk too.
One caveat. It is NOT effective if the windows are down. They MUST be up. Of course for city driving you can keep 'em down.
Also, with the VN you can easily drive w/top down in very cool temps if you turn your heater on and keep your windows up.
The VN is an excellent product for anyone who drives at freeway speeds who wants to talk to their passenger or listen to the stereo with the top down.
At highway speeds, i just roll the windows up. Significantly reduces turbulence and wind noise. Makes high-speed driving bearable. Around town, the windows stay down. Even with the windows up, you still have the best damn sunroof ever.
