That's not the same problem the other guys are having. Yours is possessed Mine is too...

If I remember right the memory settings are not just seat position and mirrors. I thought it also included memory settings for the radio stations and the AC settings.

hot from GM:

THE DRIVER RECOGNITION PROCESS ON YOUR CAR IS RELATED TO THE REMOTE FOB, NOT THE KEY. IT SHOULD RESET TO DRIVER 1 POSITION WHEN REMOTE 1 IS USED TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. THIS SHOULD BE CONSISTENT, IF IT IS NOT, A PROGRAMMING CHANGE “MAY” FIX THE PROBLEM.

Yes this is true...........what ever was set when you turned it off will be the same when you get back in.

You don't have to lock then unlock all you have to do is hit the unlock on the key fob.........

Alas, if such were only true. Most of the time my seat returns correctly - sometimes not. BUT .... my passenger side mirror sometimes moves off my setting ---

Default For those who don't have time

I just happen to have the book here -
Go to page 2-56:

Any changes that are made to the audio system and climate controls while driving will be automatically stored when the ignition key is turned off. (This answers the one that does not know why his air is sometimes on or off)

When first entering your vehicle, AFTER PRESSING THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON YOUR REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER or a MEMORY button, a recall of your settings will occur when the door is closed and the ignition key is in the ignition switch. (This answers all the other questions as to why it works sometimes and other times not.)

Hopefully this addresses and ends the concern for all.

In my car, it's still a matter of how the key goes into the ingnition. Yes it knows what settings by what key fob you use, yes it stores more that seat positions, but I thought the question was why doesn't it work every time you get in the car.

As noted above, every thing keys on the door being closed and the key in the ignition.

How does it know the key is in there?
And, it's not because the key is there, as sometimes it doesn't work.

Could it possibly have to do with residual skin oil on the key actuator?
