All of these Audio questions popping up in C5 Gen lately You may find it helpful to look in jthe Audio/Electronics section under General Corvette. There is a lot of info over there and a lot threads w/ pictures about were to place an amp.
As I advised someone else, you will need to be a little more specific. What amp are you using? Whats it running? A smaller amp may work for you back there. I have two behind the seats with no issues, but they are pretty small in size. Beyond that you will need to make an amp rack or something similiar to hide it in the back. Theres really no other good way to keep it concealed with out a creative solution with an amp rack or something. There are a lot of good examples in the audio section, using a partion/amp rack etc.
thanks, but I don't want it hidden, it actually needs more ventillation.
The point I was trying to make was that I dont think you have to give up one for the other. If you dont mind your amp sitting out in plain view than the solution is simple. Just mount it to the floor in the cargo area and be done with it. But if you want it out of sight from sticky fingers, then some have come up with a rack of sorts that hides the amp and still has plenty of ventilation room to kee it cool. Some have even added in fans to help with this function on some REALLY high powered systems. But then as I said, a smaller amp may be in order for you. Im am running a 600w rms mono behing the driver seat and a JL300/2 behind the pass seat with no troubles.
If it continually get hot and cuts off id sell it off and get another one. Preferably a mono-d amp or and a amp with a built in fan. Im not saying you dont have good quality stuff but maybe your setup requires a stronger amp to push what you have
Mine is mounted directly to the rear wall, centered....at night the blue power light can be seen, but you have to almost lean into the car to see the amp....plenty of ventilation, but you will have to redo your wiring. Seems the small amps work well behind the seats, but as I tend to place other things there at times, I like it in the back. Basically my subwoofer is almost directly in front of the amp...I had my rear carpet cut to go around the subwoofer and placed a protective grill on it....otherwise the subwoofer is fighting to push out air which is bounced back by the carpet (I have a Lloyd's carpet, and I have a coupe)....but for a convertible, I'm not sure, there are more space limitations.
It's a MtX Thunder 152. I was also noticing that the above amp is installed upright. Mine was installed laying flat down on the carpet. Would that matter?

I think Im a little confused on where you have it then. Are you saying its on the floor? So its actually under the seat rather than behind it? If it is under the seat, there isnt much room at all under there for any airflow. Placing it on the wall behind the seat would be an improvement as far as airflow.
Behind the seat is a good place for your amps. Rear wall is an excellent spot if you're using a sub but for multi channel applications just increases the amount of wire you have to run.
Vette kid: I'd highly suggest mounting your JL amp with the cooling fins on top. This is the way the JL amps were designed to cool.

Well, now that you mention it...that makes perfect sence. Dont know why I didnt think of it. Thanks!
it's not under the seat but way far back, basically in the trunk. And if I have stuff in the trunk it restricts the flow of air. And if the top is down it REALLY restricts its flow of air. But, I like where you have yours, right behind the seat or where Oaks 99 has his as well behind the waterfall might get better air flow as well. And, THANKS for the pics, they really help!
