Out here in sunny Dubai we have Gas pump attendants. They stick in the gas pump into the car, lock it in and walk away. However my lady vette dosnt like the rough treatment and rejects to accept the fuel.
Even with gentle hands and plenty of lube, she is still struggling to accept the Gas, and i more often than not need to get out and fill her up very slowly myself.

any soloutions?
When I got my C5 (this summer) I was having the shutoff problem but I've since found that it was only at one station. I can only assume that their fuel delivery speed was greater than others. Since I stopped going there I haven't had any more issues.
So you could have the filler pipe issue or it could be pump flow rate. Why not explain to the gas-jockey that your car needs to be filled slowly and that you will do it? I would imagine they would prefer you to take over rather than stand there forever.
My car does the same thing. I don't put the filler all the way into the car. I have it in about an inch or two from being all the way in. The gas seems to flow better into the tank that way. Same thing on my chevy van. If I put the nossle all the way in It keeps shutting off.

I read about doing that when I was researching the fuel fill issue but I forgot to mention it. Some people had better luck by putting the nozzle in -
1. Part way.
2. At an angle (from the handle being straight down).
3. Upside down (I've no idea how you would do that).
My vette would never fill at any Sunoco stations. I had the dealer change the filer neck with the new and improved one and no more troubles! Oh by the way it did help putting the nozzle in upside down.....handle up ...thats all!
