Default Really Dumb Question ...

Getting ready to put my C5 up for the winter here in New York State .. How do I remove the license plate on the back of the car ? I took the 4 screws out of the bracket holder that were screwed through the plate and Istill cant get it off. I figured the bracket must just pop in there somehow . Am I dumb or what ? Frustrating me ..

If yours is like mine, I think the black frame around the plate snaps in place. Use a bone tool or something that will not mar the plastic to dislodge it. If the plastic is cold it will probably break so be careful.

One each side of the frame are two openings that give access to plastic tabs that hold the frame one. Small screwdriver works well to push and release the tab.

Am I a mechanical genius? Heck no, I asked the dealer shop manager the first time I changed the tag!!!

I just used a flat head screwdriver. push each tab in carefully and keep a bit of tension on it so it doesn't slip back into the slot. Take your time and you won't have any problems

You must have really impressed the shop mgr. He said that you were not nearly as dumb as you look.

There are 4 screws holding the plate in place and another 4 screws (torx?) holding the bracket assembly to the car.
